Thank you after the cook in our family died, (the kitchen was off limits, my husband was a great cook, I was so stupid not to learn how to even shop) so luckily I have people like you to help me keep from starving I'm a horrible cook.

I just made a beef and bean soup for our New Year party at church. The people dug in and I had none left !!! 😁

Our weather was terribly windy and later it snowed several inches. The soup sent everyone home nice and warm inside. 😍

    I'm a soup gal…

Thanks so much for your video. I watched a couple of others and they didn't even mention taking out the bad beans and rinsing the dirt off. I am from West Virginia and we were taught always to do that first.

Just began making pinto beans myself, it is such a good idea to pick thru the beans. Getting a bad bean is like getting an eggshell pieces in a egg salad sandwich.

Took clicking on a few different videos to find the right one. The first couple were people that talked with yankee accents. Then I found this nice lady who spoke my language.

Been using the instant pot for over a year and never thought of cooking beans in it.
Thanks for the video. Cooked a pot of pinto beans with a nice smoked ham hock and it was wonderfully soupy and smoky and it didn't take all day!

You gotta love a good Southern lady that knows how to cook. Born in N Carolina here, but raised in Texas. Our Instapot just arrived today from Amazon…. maybe I'll make these beans while my wife's at work one day. (Retired here).

    Great video, thanks Ma'am!!!

My mom was from Kentucky. We had pinto beans and lima beans and black-eyed peas, and corn cakes. The electric pressure cooker makes it so much easier! And science is discovering now that beans are super healthy.

Oh my, these look so delicious, and I love the beautiful bowl you put them in at the end. I don’t like ham or bacon in my beans because I don’t really care for that smokey flavor. I’ll have to try a pork chop. Thank you for this recipe and demo! 🙂

Hi loved your video. We give our beans one rinse then just throw them in the pot with a ham hock & add a little water when necessary. Then we just cook them until tender like my granny used to do. Thanks for sharing with us. God bless.

I have seen some people on YT say they soak the beans overnight and they turn out better in the Instant Pot. Someone else said they don't add salt until after the beans are finished cooking because it makes them tough. I don't know if either of those methods are true, as I am much better at eating than cooking : ) Thanks for sharing the vid.

I spread my dry beans out on a dinner plate a little at a time and sort them first then I rinse them. Much easier. And no, this not criticism. This is just a tip. You can either use it or not. Your choice.

No criticism here. We just do it slightly different in our part of the woods. I prefer to use a smoked ham hock with a little thyme a couple of bay leaves and sage. I look for a large ham hock and take the meat off the bone after cooking and add it to the beans. I love the smoky flavor of the ham hock. Yummy! Other than that, everything's just perfect.

We have had the Instant Pot for about a year and a half now and use it all the time. Making bean soup from scratch in less than 2 hours is great. Sure beats the old way of soaking the beans all night.
