Instant Pot Duo Crisp Review with Pros & Cons ~ How does it compare to the Ninja Foodi?

For more great Instant Pot recipes, please visit InstantPotEasy.com

Instant Pot has gotten in the game and released a pressure cooker with a detachable air frying lid. Sounds great right? Maybe not! Is it better than the attached lid on the Ninja Foodi? Take a look for yourself as I demonstrate making hand-cut fries in both appliances. You definitely want to watch this video BEFORE you buy one so you choose the best fit for you!

Thanks Louise for this review! I bought an Instant Pot Duo Crisp on 1/5/2020. I have air crisped in it twice, once with catfish and once with hamburgers. I also Sous Vide Filet Mignons. After 2 times air crisping, the teflon coating on the air fry basket has begun to chip. I have only hand washed it, have only used silicon coated utensils and I have only used avocado oil in an EVO to spray the basket and the food. No Pam or any other aerosol oil sprays. The Sous Vide experience was also lack luster….it took 1 hour and 10 minutes to come to temperature and then it could only hold the temp at 122 degrees with the pressure lid on. So after 2 hours and 10 minutes, I ended up finishing them with a cast iron skillet. I registered my Duo Crisp with Instant Pot and opened a ticket regarding the chipping of the crisper basket on their website. After hitting submit, I received a confirmation on their website…."Thank you for filling out the form. Your response has been recorded…Due to high volume of contacts, we are experiencing delays in response times. We apologize for the inconvenience and will respond to your inquiry as soon as possible."   I'm not hopeful that I will ever hear from them and there does not appear to be any way to even purchase a replacement air fryer basket, so I now have a very expensive 8 qt pressure cooker.  I hope this helps others when making a decision between the two.  I'll be getting the Ninja Foodi….or maybe the Ninja Foodi Grill…not sure which way to go.  Any thoughts?

I've had 2 bad Duo Crisps, my original and my warranty replacement both of them stopped recognizing the air fryer lid after a couple uses. There is definitely a quality control issue.

She won`t be making videos for very long judging the amount of salt she sprinkled onto a dozen or so french fries. No wonder her website is called "Salted Pepper" with an emphasis on the salt wich she sprinkles onto pepper too, my word ! !. May she rest in peace. Also why doesn`t she cut a couple of inches off her counter top legs which alomost reaches her shoulders. That will solve the issue of the Instant Pot`s heavy manipulation weight. She probably dented it trying to lift it onto the counter top with her arms at shoulder level. Maybe she needs the counter top at this level to support the hevier parts of her body whilst preparation and cooking. Neither does she mention that the Instant Pot has a Dehydration function that the Ninja doesn`t. A very one sided comparison and not very fair in my opinion.

Personally I like ninja design. I’m new owner of ninja foodi. I just made chicken for dinner and French fries the other day.Even the crisper lid attached it is easy and comfortable to control process. You can pick and see what’s going on inside the pot. I cannot imagine to lift 6 lbs lid
3 or 4 times to check on fries .

What do you do with your foodi when you’re not using it? Do you leave it on the counter and slide it out when you use it or what? I’m only asking because of you’re portion about how the IP slides…

Thanks so much for your review. It is really informative. But I have to tell you that I have been using a 6qt Instant Pot for 4 years and I have never had a issue with it moving around on the counter. The pot lid is easy off and on and does not cause the unit to move. I do appreciate that you point that out, I just don't think it's an issue and probably should not be considered when making a decision on purchase. Love your recipes! Thanks!

I know that the Instant pot frying lid is heavy, but I think the reason why it is such an issue for you is because your countertop is way too high. My countertop is low, and I feel I would have the same issue as you if my countertop was that high. I would not be able to do much of anything if my countertop was that high. I am 5'2".

Thanks Louise for helping me with my decision. I’d pretty much made up my mind due to the Ninja’s attached lid and solid looking build but you backed up what I had been feeling. I’m just waiting for Ninja to get moving on releasing the new model into Australia and the 8 quart size as well. At least we get the old model 6 quart Foodi currently, IP don’t even sell much of their products in Australia yet we have the same power voltage as the UK.
Love your recipes, hope you and your family have a great 2020.

All of the other comparisons of these 2 products pretty much come down to personal preference of the product that you're personally comfortable with because they both basically do the exact same thing. Obviously you are comfortable with the Ninja. Not a fair test because you couldn't pressure cook. For me it's going to come down to the best price I can find. I haven't watched any of your other videos but this one came off as extremely biased, based on other comparison videos I've watched. I'm sure that was not intended but just my initial opinion. I will be checking out some of your recipe videos. I've seen a lot I think I would like to try. Just one guy's opinion.

I saw both of these units in Target, and the Duo Crisp was $100 cheaper, so naturally I was curious about how they compared. I feel like you provided a thorough review, and even mentioned a lot of points that may or may not matter to others. As you said, your role was to provide info distinct to each unit, and it's up to the consumer to decide what fits the budget and what's important.

I like that you don't try to hide the fact that you love your Ninja Foodi and were absolutely considering the alternative with as little bias as possible. You like what you like – there's nothing wrong with that! I am biased towards Ninja products because I own a few of their things and feel like they just put out a stellar product. (I still "dream" of owning their coffee bar! haha) I was curious about the Duo Crisp, though, and how it compared. You answered that question, as least where it pertains to fries!! 😀

May I make a suggestion? If there is any way to add something about fries in your description, it may help your viewers. My husband last night said that the only thing he wanted to know was how well the fries turned out in either of these. I was curious about how a steak would turn out, but he wanted the fries. Go figure.

Overall, I think your video is fantastic. I understand what you mean about the lid feeling too heavy because since you are not very tall, you mostly force the shoulder to do the work, and this can feel really awkward. Someone taller has a better vantage point to lift and move that 6lb lid and would use more of the biceps, which feels more comfortable. That point is important to me because I am not extremely tall (5'6"), but having the lid attached just saves space given I have a small kitchen area to work in.

Thanks again for posting this!! 😀 This was great!
