I didn't enjoy raw tomatoes until my mid 20s. My first step was leaving off the habitual "no tomatoes please" when ordering a sandwich, simply to save the hassle. Eventually I felt like I was missing something when the sandwich didn't have them. Then I started to enjoy the flavor!

I don't think I'd be into those raw tomato chunks in udon either, but I bet they would be good if they were blanched in broth for a few minutes.

Isn't Cooking Haru Korean? Also his dishes have far more of a Korean flair to them than Japanese (lots of spam, gochugaru/gochujang and tons of "Western" ingredients). Udon and Ramen are just as popular in Korea as they are in Japan! (or indeed, the world)

It's kind of different because the Testing everyone's series usually tests four versions of the same dish while here it's four different asian noodle dishes, i feel like it should kind of not be rated against each other.

i think the third dish is definitely a conflict of expectations. Stir-Fried Tomato and Egg is something I grew up on in a Chinese household, and shrimp and egg are common pairings. Would regularly have this over noodles, or over rice.

We never added pepper flakes to it, but it doesn't surprise me as an addition. Never really thought about using some tomato sauce to add some tomato flavor when all I can get are super market flavorless tomatoes. I'll keep that in mind.

Holy schmit, last year i made a commentary on that 1 meal a day recipe, where i jokingly said that that's what an authentic carbonara probably looks like. It received over 20 comments, half of them not understanding it was a joke, sarcasm …

    AND SPEAKING OF ROMAN SAUCES

David, sir, saying that the Cooking Haru recipe is "just" an arrabiata sauce with udon and scrambled eggs ..?

What the hell is wrong with you, you degenerate … that's like saying that if my grandma had wheels, she'd be a bike.

when david put raw tomatoes on the second dish, I was super confused LOL I was like "wait doesn't David hate raw tomatoes??" but then he said he won't be touching those at all, so I was relieved 😂
