It is nice to see that there are easier ways to make yoghurt nowadays. I remember my mother making it in a huge pot. She let fat milk with a cup of good yoghurt from the store simmer for a while. Then put the pot on the window sill wrapped in blankets and after one or two days she had yoghurt. She made sure to keep a cup of the fresh yoghurt for her next batch and always said the more often you make your own yoghurt with a cup of the one before, the better it gets.

Hi Kerry – that kit seems quite expensive (£80)and the refills for one month are £40! For many years I have used the Lakeland yoghurt maker which is £30 and made my yoghurt with 2tbsp of natural bio yoghurt, 1tbsp dried skimmed milk powder and 1 ltr of whole UHT milk and then either used some of the yoghurt to make the next batch (or used more bio yoghurt). As the Lakeland kit comes with a strainer, I strain the yoghurt overnight then mix about half the whey back in as I find the unstrained yoghurt to be to sloppy for me but that is obviously a personal choice for texture. You can also make soft cheese with the kit and the ingredients are easily obtained in any supermarket. Great idea to make your own yoghurt as you know that it is not full of sugar!
