I just saw this video, but have been making this recipe for a year or so. It is awesome! And by the way, I cook this in my stove top pressure cooker with no problems with foaming up.
how could homemade stock not be an option? you literally just throw stuff in a pot and let time do the rest of the work.

I know this is a terrible comment, but I don't have barley. Could I use quinoa instead?
Just be further warned that barley multiplies exponentially and drinks up all the liquids – use responsibly (bahahahaha).
Just be warned folks, if you don't eat barley often, there's a good chance your gutty works will not take too kindly to this delicious recipe.
It's totally worth it though.
