Canned Corned Beef is my go to food for sahur during ramadhan. Quick to cook, doesn't need complicated preparation. I usually double cook it. 1st, fry it until crispy, then mix it with beaten egg and fry it again. Eat it with rice and green salad, perfect for sahur.

Oh yea, internet happen to be my favorite food during collage. The combination of what considered as luxurious and cheapest item for student in one plate, heaven. Add a lot of rice, it keep you full for a day…lol

You've gotta do one with a Polynesian person. We're Rotuman (Fijian) and corned beef is a staple. They have no animals in Rotuma so canned meat is the most practical way to keep red meat, esp as they only have electricity for a few hours a day.

I'm late to watching this, but my (Filipina) mom would fry corned beef with onion, and canned sweet corn. I don't know if she picked that up from growing up in Manila or what, but it was one of my favorites growing up. She'd dish it OVER rice so the remaining juices would mingle in the rice, and you'd get a sweet/savory dance of flavor as you go. Despite my mom's annoyance of making my plate "look ugly," I would mix it all up and eat it by the spoonful. šŸ˜‚

Our cornsilog being a breakfast dish is eaten with coffee. Given we filipinos like our coffee sweet, it neutralizes a lot of the saltiness, or shall i say ur thirstiness dilemma.
We dont mind really salty foods here, coz we are sauce loving people as well… we have garlic/vinegar or sweet catsup to match them šŸ˜‰

Actually in Indonesia there's a corned beef brand named Pronas and it comes in 2 styles of packages, can and pouch/sachet, so the sachet one it's good to go and I even eat them plain as a snack cuz it's pre cooked šŸ™‚

So happy to see you do canned corn beef! It made me even happier to see a Caribbean island represented because I wasnā€™t sure if it was just my family who did it or if it was a part of wider Caribbean culture. My family is from Guyana and growing up my grandmother would cook the corned beef with onions and ketchup to add some sweetness and we would eat it with freshly made roti or rice :). My cousins and I loved those meals together!

"Internet" is an IndonesianšŸ‡®šŸ‡© abbreviation of:

    In: Indomie (Instant noodle brand)
    Ter: Telur (Egg)
Net: Kornet (Corned Beef, but that's we call 'em herešŸ˜)

    Glad you like it, Berryl!

Thank you for waking up privilege people who were born to think they are superior (i.e. referring the new experience to a "humbling experience,") typical response of a person raised to think they are superior. Can you realize you're not the NORM and NOT THE BEST. Other humans have better food ideas than a white mother.

I'm from Scotland and I have been put off corned beef for life by the most popular Scottish dish using this ingredient- "Stovies" I don't know if there's a better way of cooking this stuff but my mum boiled potatoes, onions, carrots and corned beef together with a bouillon cube until it was nice and sloppy šŸ¤¢It was only edible covered in ketchup
