I'm honored to be a part of this video! Watching Beryl try different foods has long been my favorite way to relax and unwind, and I always get in my feelings watching them. Truly wholesome content. I'm glad I was able to share a part of my culture!

I'm happy El Salvador is "represented" and this is your way of making things… but I would love to show you how to make them. These look like arepas, which aren't close to pupusas. Yes it is dough with a filling, but pupusas aren't like this at all. The curtido isn't like that either

When I am homesick I make mangú. I’m Dominican and I moved to the us when I was very young. Mangu is mashed green plantains. You boil the plantains like you would potatoes, and then you mash them incorporating the salted water you boiled them in and some butter. It’s usually eaten with eggs, pan fried salami, and pan-fried pickled onions. It’s easy to make so when I’m especially homesick Im and down it doesn’t take a lot of effort. ❣️

Banana rain fritters are exactly what we call here 'kolar bora'. I'm from kolkata, India.. It's not a restaurant food but it's a winter fried soul food that we make during different 'puja's. I think you should try it, you'll love it too.. And hey beryl you should try tasting some bengali food?

pupusas are so special to me. i didn’t grow up close to the Salvadoran culture, but my dad talked about pupusas and once i was able to have them with him and his mom, and that’s one of the few memories i have of them as a kid. i taught myself how to make pupusas when i grew up, and they always make me feel closer to a part of myself and my family that i don’t really know.

I am from the US but live in Germany and one that really always reminds me of home is chicken and dumplings. I remember sitting on the counter helping my grandma form the dumplings and leaving a little thumbprint in each one before plopping them in a big pot of chicken soup that would get thick and creamy from the flour on the dumplings. My mother-in-law made it for me the last time I was in Oklahoma to visit. It always takes me back.

Hi I’m from the great white north eh! ( Canada) I’ve watched many of your vids and they are great but I don’t think you’ve given us canucks much love lol. If you want something that is uniquely Canadian plz put Nanaimo bars in a future vid. Thanks.

Hi Beryl, from Stanwood, WA. About 1+ hour north of Seattle. Do NOT be afraid of or beware of … baking. I learned most of what I know from my high school Home Ec class. The basics, anyway, like bread-baking. The only real issue is that you have to know and understand the terminology. Take a little two-week class. You will not regret it. LOVE your channel! Addicted. Signed, quickbread-maker. Yum.

I think I never ate rain fritters with bananas LOL (proving once more just HOW big and diverse is Brazil on its traditional dishes around the country)
I've been vegan for 6 years now, and the other day my gramma wanted to make Bolinho de Chuva and she was like:
    – I wanted to make Bolinho de Chuva, but if I remove the egg, the milk there's only flour left!
Me, who already learned to cook them vegan, so I don't know how else it should be make:
    – Well, I only use water, gramma!
She was super surprised! I think more people are making it the vegan version involuntarily during this harsh time of our economics. Maybe we will stick to it later, the fun about Bolinho de Chuva is the sugar + cinammon combination you roll the fritter after frying.
    No bananas involved tho xD

Beryl I watch a lot of food related vlogs and have noticed that a few of the most popular on good vlogs involve eggs. Bon appetit, simple living Alaska etc. Highly recommend an egg episode.

Am I the only who positively bawled at all the beautiful observations of homesickness and what home is?

I love this community so much and though I have never contributed, I feel part of something bigger than my worries when I watch one of your videos. x

When im feeling nostalgic for childhood nummies, i make chicken and dumplings.
Roast the vegetables and make the best chicken stock you can. My dumplings are called slickers, which is a thick egg needle.
    Delicious.

I was hoping for a Jamaican to comment. But if any fellow Jamaicans, please tell me that you immediately thought our franks and ketchup with fried dumpling when you saw the Panamanian hojaldras!

My Salvadorean friends introduced me to Pupusas & they're a favorite in my family! My favorites are the refried bean & cheese combo or the Revueltas (pork rind paste filling mixed with cheese)

As a panamanian mom I approve your hojaldras 🙌💖💖. They are such a staple that every family has it's own recipe with little tweaks. And the hit dog stew is the best way to eat them

Cassandra's dad's recipe for the ground beef is very similar to my parents' recipe for ground beef, down to the raisins and boiled eggs. We're Puerto Rican but apparently it's an odd recipe here (my friends have always looked at me weird when I tell them what we put in it) so it's nice to know that somewhere else it's not that weird.
