Please know that "hawaiian butter mochi" is not hawaiian or japanese. It is derived from BIBINGKA, which is a Filipino dessert. As a Filipina who grew up in Hawaii, i understand that when things become popularized, they often take on a new name that is more acceptable to the masses. But "butter mochi" is and will always be *BIBINGKA*.

..and yea maybe i am bitter about japanese people in hawaii renaming and taking credit for things that were made by other cultures on the islands. like the fact that mainland people think poke is a type of sushi when it's a native hawaiian dish. i'm tired of seeing Bibingka but when i get excited that people are enjoying Filipino food they be like "oh it's hawaiian butter mochi" – just small kine irritating…..

I live in Hawaii and I will say the coconut is a must! Glad this recipe is getting recognition, because it’s a coincidence most Hawaiian families make this, but I love how you added coconut to it! Coconuts give a great subtle taste, and they are sweet and savory. Lookin good! Mahalo 😁🤙🏾

I guess the Caucasian food and spice crusade just never ended. You guys make every other cultures dishes after storming the lands and we’ve yet to see what all the stolen spices and recipes have done for your all’s culture. You may not be bad, but the things you all do are not for sure Good. Imitation is the highest form of flattery when it’s not one sided for so so long. When do we get to take a recipe or something natural from you all and replicate it ?? Lol just saying, looks good tho. 😂

I’ve made your butter Mochi four times but twice I didn’t have whole milk so I switched it up a little. I had/added 1 cup 1% milk, 1 can coconut milk, 1 can coconut cream – add the rest of said ingredients. It came out delicious!!
The 2nd time I used 1 can evaporated milk, 1 coconut cream & 1 c 1% milk (my kids love 1% milk lol) – along with the rest of the ingredients and this recipe came out THE best!! The texture was perfect! Not too sticky, not too chewy.
I have to say, of all the butter Mochi recipes I’ve tried, yours is – in our opinion – the best! Thank you!
