She speeds pie is my husbands favorite!
I have a favorite Texas chili recipe
I just want to say how much I enjoy watching your cooking with your husband! Y’all crack me up! I’m a mom with toddlers and a baby so cooking dinner is a circus in my house right now, and watching you and your husband drinking wine and chatting while cooking really helps me realize my kids won’t be this little forever and I will get to leisurely sip on wine while cooking one day! I hope that doesn’t sound silly 😂 I just love the casual/conversational style of your videos!
Shepherd's/cottage pie is in our regular fall/winter rotation. I mainly use a recipe from aboutamom Freezer Friendly Shepherd's Pie. For a speed version, I brown the ground beef with some garlic, add a little Worcestershire sauce and then add a can of condensed vegetable soup with a little water. I saw someone recently top with tater tots and that looked good to me too. Cincinnati chili is still on my bucket list, and the flavor combination sounds great to me. I have a cookbook recipe called chilighetti… I used to make it for church gatherings, but haven't made it in years.
That's really smart about not adding spices/herbs before draining beef.
Next time, put sour cream on top of the chili. It's just not the same without it! (We can walk to a Skyline Chili from our house and love it!) Shephard's Pie is one of our favorites! (It's an Irish dish, btw…)
That sweet chili with jalapeños poppers or fried jalapeños is really good 👍 I also use cinnamon instead of chocolate so maybe I’ll try it this way next time I make it 🍲
Yes I tried Cincinnati chili I am from Ohio
I love both! I also make something called chili mac. It’s a regular chili recipe served over macaroni noodles with onions and cheese as toppings.
😋👍
I do not like Cincinnati chili at all
Try chocolate in your pasta sauce you will be amazed
So looking for a new shepherd's pie recipe – thanks so much! Can't wait to try it. Looks delicious!
Yum! I am glad you are back to cooking and decorating on this channel.
Well, I was about to say that I'd never eat chili over spaghetti noodles (I have tried it with macaroni, and that is something I won't do again 😜!), BUT the way you and your husband described it makes me think it might not be too bad after all…as long as I reframe it as a type of spaghetti sauce vs chili in my mind! 😅 I have had, and made, shepherd's/cottage pie quite a few times (one of my grandmas was from England and made it a lot). It's not my favorite, but it's definitely a warm and filling meal! 😊
From Chicago and actually I’ve never had Shepherds pie but looked delicious- I don’t think it’s the area you’re from, but family (?)
Thank you for sharing all these!
😋. Now that I’ve watched on, maybe from further north like Canada!? Dunno but thanks again for being the lab tester 😂
We ate homemade chili over spaghetti noodles growing up. I didn’t know that wasn’t the way to eat noodles until moving away from my small southern town 30 years ago.
When you add ground meat without browning or cooking it, it changes the texture of it and the meat breaks apart into very fine pieces. Some hot dog chili's are made this way so it provides good coverage over the hotdog and you don't have to contend with large chunks of meat.
And both recipes looked delicious. Shepherd's pie is such a comfort food for me. And I'll have to try the Cincinnati chili soon. I just have to get my mind wrapped around putting it over noodles.
Next time you make regular chili… top it with cheeto puffs. You'll never eat chili with out it! 😊
I eat my chili over rice with cheese and saltines.
I’m from Ohio but I’m not a fan of Cincinnati Chili….I prefer the traditional kind.
One of my thanksgiving left over dishes is to make a variation of Shepards Pie using turkey and mashed sweat potatoes.
Northern Illinois here, I use corn and green beans in ours ❤ peas are vile just saying 😂
Sounds yummy❤
I do love all your recipes and appreciate you sharing them with us but one thing I must comment on is the cleanliness of your stove and kitchen area. I have watched some channels and cannot finish watching because of the condition of the surroundings. Thank you!!!
I’ve been following your videos from here in NE Ohio for several years now, I’ve been with you through 3 homes!
Now, we’ve got to get you to make some Buckeyes in honor of our great Ohio State Buckeyes
I’m from Cincy and we love our chili! You nailed it! ❤ the only things I do differently that skyline style does is use my immersion blender to make it thinner. The original is a pretty thin consistency.
Okay, that bubbling shepherd’s pie, OMG🤯🤯🤯yummm
I remember the first time I had Shepherd's Pie was at church camp. It looked (and tasted) like the leftovers fron the whole week, covered in mashed potatoes. Needless to say I was not a fan and renamed it "leftover pie"…lol. Many MANY years later…seeing the version you made, makes me want to give it a try again. 😋
Lol idk if u saw the face (maybe a very cute pumpkin face) on it. Its after u took it out and talked of the "spillage" all looked so good.
My mother is English. Shepard's Pie is traditionally made with minced lamb, Yuck! She could not get anyone in our family to eat lamb, So she used ground beef. I like the peas and carrots but use what veg. you like.
I live in Ohio. That's how you make Cincinnati chili. The cinnamon and chocolate can throw you but I like the taste. I hate the taste of cloves, nutmeg and allspice so I don't put it in my chili. We eat it spaghetti, chili, cheese, onion. That's 4 way. 5 way you add beans.
Wish you would have links for your recipes so they can be forwarded to a watcher's personal email. They way they are now can't copy for use. 😢😢😢
Cincinnati chili is delicious! Love that you tried it out!
I have had the first one many times, but never Cincinnati Chili. It makes me want to try this! Thanks Jen.

I have never heard of chocolate or cinnamon in chili and definitely have never seen anyone put the raw meat into the sauce to cook it. Doesn't the meat leave grease? I've also only had chili with beans, without just looks like spaghetti sauce to me. lol
I live in southeastern Ohio, and Cincinnati chili is not common here. Your version looked tasty though. I’ve also never had shepherds pie. Lol. After hearing you rave about how good it was I made it for
dinner tonight and the family loved it. Thanks for sharing, Jen. I always get so much inspiration watching you cook😊
I make Shepherd’s Pie with ground beef, (that’s the way my British mom made it because us kids would not eat lamb) onions, garlic, flour for thickener, beef broth OR vegetable broth, canned mixed vegetables and Bob Evans Original mashed potatoes. My husband and sister absolutely love it made this way! My husband eats a peanut butter sandwich with his chili! Thanks for the recipes!
I have tried shepherd's pie, but not that fancy. Your's looked like a restaurant style one. It looked like perfection. Never had the chili, but you made it look good. Have a nice weekend. ❤
I am originally from Ohio and I love Skyline chili! They also put it on hot dogs 😊. I now live in TN and our Walmarts carry the Skyline chili in the freezer section. It has the spaghetti noodles so you just have to add your toppings and its very close to what they serve in the restaurants.
cool
I make what we call shepherds pie with minced meat not lamb. It’s a staple in many Canadian kitchens. It’s 100% comfort food. My family likes corn so I put the mince on the bottom then a layer of corn then the mashed potatoes and sometimes a bit of cheese on the top. So delicious. 🇨🇦
I live in the midwest and don't ever make shepherd's pie. Your recipe looked amazing. 😋 I had Skyline chili 1 time and didn't like it at all. It was sweet and I like my spaghetti sauce savory, no sugar. Your finished product looked yummy if it wasn't sweet.
