Cauli cheese would of been better on the roast dinner 😋 also homemade soup would be nice for him, the problem with that packet pasta meals they are bad for you. I’m poorly at the mo too :/ colds and asthma don’t go well

Cotton candy grapes are delicious, but sadly out of my budget. A hint I learned using a thermos/ flask if putting hot food in rinse with hot water to get it heated up and then immediately put in hot food. The same goes for cold food. Happy belated birthday. Glad you're feeling better.

That lasagne idea you were given would also work very well for one person, Claire – although I don't know how many meals it would make. Still, it's a great idea! I'm sorry you were ill, though – and around your birthday, too – I hope you're fully recovered now. So glad it wasn't Covid!

I think a pantry and fridge should be nurtured and fed to keep it going. After a little while, you notice you are filling in as opposed to big shopping trips, keeping the food level up, and really paying attention to what you have on hand at all times. Happy Birthday, and I hope you are feeling better soon. tfs 🥰🎃🍃🍂🍁🎃🌞🌛✝️🥰🎃🍃🍂🍁🎃🌞🌛✝️

Hi just a suggestion here, if you spend less than your £35p.w. budget – could you not put the money you save into a savings account/piggy bank for something at the end of your 6 months? Or however long you are sticking to this for! Xx

Poor Claire! You have had a rough time. With our preoccupation about Covid over the last 19 months, we forget how the common cold is also a virus which can make you feel really ill.
Instead of buying puff pastry ,have you thought of making Rough Puff pastry at home ?You just freeze the fat, I use half butter and half lard, a larger proportion than for short crust, and then grate it into the flour, dipping the cut edge in flour each time to avoid clogging up the grater. Mix with icy cold water and knead lightly. Chill for half an hour and then roll out as usual.
The cheapest way to buy vegetables is to look for the red tractor sign on .You then know it's produced in the UK and is seasonal.
Fruit is difficult as I notice in our local market, that British apples are dearer than French Gala and UK Victoria plums were £6 a kilo whereas the Italian ones from Lidl which I bought to make chutney, were £1.49 a kilo. It doesn't make sense, does it?

Really enjoying this challenge i have seen people do this for a month but not 3. Do you think pantry and freezer will run too low and the weekly budgets nov and December will increase? In trying save money on grocery but also im trying buy some Xmas food each week spread the cost and keep 2 weeks supply at all times in case we get ill. Hope you feeling better soon. Happy birthday 🎂.

When l make cauli cheese l always put a bit of pasta in so it is like a cross with macaroni cheese. Also a handful of peas and chopped carrots to have a bit of colour in it. Makes it more of a filling meal. And l put a tiny bit of mustard in so l can use a little bit less cheese but still have lots of cheesy flavour. Goes down well in our house : )

Absolutely loving following your journey. I missed a food shop last week just using up stuff from the freezer etc. Only spent £20 this week as cooked double of some stuff last week so freezer looking full again. I've always been good at using up leftovers etc but I have to say I'm enjoying challenging myself right now. Thanks for sharing. Get well soon. I had the same symptoms as you and unfortunately I did have covid. I hope you don't have it x x

I love the idea of the bread pan lasagna! Such a cute and convenient idea if you don’t want to make a huge pan. Oh and Happy belated Birthday! Hope you get to feeling better soon! 🥳

Happy birthday and I hope your back to 100% soon. I caught the horrid cold a few weeks back. Took me ages to get past it. Keep eating those veggies for your immunity. I think we're in for a rough winter with the bugs this year. x

Hope you are feeling completely better soon. It is hard to think about cooking when you can't taste anything. Great job on keeping under your goal and I am so thrilled that you liked my idea of the mini lasagna in a loaf pan. Perhaps some other week you can give it a try. It is great for a single person or a couple but definitely doesn't stretch to feed 4 very well.

    Happy Birthday, Claire!
I generally spend 150 USD a week for a family of four. This past week since taking up the challenge I spent just under 84.00 USD.
Thanks for the idea and encouragement.
