Don’t use cooking oil for your cutting boards. While it’s typically washed away before it has the chance to spoil, cooking oils are made from food, and can go rancid. Spend a few extra dollars and get a bottle of high quality food grade mineral oil. It can be found with nice wooden cutting boards where they are sold, and pharmacies typically sold with/as laxatives. Also, use salt every so often, or after heavy use. Cover the board with salt, let dry overnight, scrape, wash, and oil.
