I'm sending this to my better-half right now – she needs more planning and discipline – Instead of visiting 4 stores in 5 days to shop aimlessly (or trying to save $.30 when the gas costs more for 4 stores). I cook with whatever she gets, but I plan two big meals per week that I make solely. Great short video St-Pierre! Hmm, I'm thinking a new Portobello mushroom video!!! 🙂
We also try to plan one week ahead and go shopping once a week. But stolling over the farmers market we often buy additional produce or meat for two or three dishes. 😉On other days when some errands took longer than expected for example we just want a quick meal and we decide on the spot looking into the fridge what we could cook. Even it's spaghetti alio e olio… 😋So our list is only a list of suggestions and possibilities! 🤪
Great video Chef JP!! You make a good teacher, because you leave options open for viewers to prepare meals that fit peoples tasts. If a recipe calls for wine, someone will always say… " We don't like wine" so leave out the wine when cooking that dish.. The dish will taste different, but will still taste OK for their family, no big deal!!!
One thing I’ve learned over the years is the night before I cook to check the level of spices and dry seasonings. I also place my seasoning bottles and containers on one side of my work area and as I add to the dish, I move it to the opposite side. I started this routine after forgetting one time if I’d added an ingredient or not and added it again.
Chef JP, I live in Vietnam. But if I didn't, I'd be knocking on your door every damn day – "Can I chop some onyo for you? Do some weeding in the garden? Hold this camera for you?" 😅
I do all of this already but I have another tip to add: build a little flexibility into your weekly menu. Defrost foods a few days in advance in case you need to swap a faster meal for what you originally planned, and keep a decent frozen pizza or similar convenience dinner in your freezer for nights when you have to work late and get home too tired to cook anything at all. It saves on take out.
I totally agree. Things go do much smoother when you have all ingredients ready to go. Thanks and I really enjoy listening and watching your videos. Thank you and God bless.
Just a word of warning to anyone considering buying anything from SALT DAYS who regularly advertise on this channel DON'T DO IT!!! THEY ARE A SCAM CHANNEL OF THEIVES and you will get nothing for your money
Hi Chef, Been watching you on the big screen TV so haven't commented for ages. Hey, this video is the best advice. I actually used to do this. Am gonna get back to it. Makes life so much easier too!. You take care of you! Thanks for making these videos. …. PS Hi to Jack.
Thanks, Chef! My kids are very young but love helping with their plastic knives to prep carrots and mushrooms for the mise en place and they even make their own eggs, porridge and pancakes with the induction hob. Love ya'!
I own two restaurants, and I still can't understand why my cooks can't seem to get the Monday order right for the week. They're making me run 2-4 times per week for ingredients that they forgot to order! I pay them much to well to be having to do this!
I'm calling a staff meeting on Monday and we're going to watch this video together.
Things we should know but probably didn't. Great advice!
Good advice! Cheers
wow i absolutely love this Chef! this is superb advice
I got a simple technique too..
Mine is coming to this channel to see what to cook 😂

Meal planning is huge for my family. We absolutely love sitting down sunday and figuring out what were going to cook all week. 🙂

The best two pieces of advice were the cleaning water and of course the "clean as you go". Total game changer! Thank you Chef!

I thought that I knew about food preparation, despite being married to two talented cooks. Then I met Chef Jean Pierre.
Please, Chef! Read the studies on Bleach and Bleach products! They're incredibly dangerous!
Respect your dishwasher?
I love your channel. You have taught me so much! I only wish these videos were out there when I first started cooking (many years ago)!
Laughing out loud!!
