In south India gol gappas and pani puri are different things. While 1 uses mashed potato and spices with cold pani ,the other uses hot sambar with peas and other veggies. There is also a thing called sukka (without the pani)served in the end .

I'm a Bengali and they call it a puchka here. It is slightly different from the golgappa as in the potatoes are mashed and it's more spicier. They serve it with imli (tamarind) water. It's so much better. No disrespect though. Golgappas are also nice.
