I love Linney Water Mill self-rising cornmeal comes in yellow and white. I don't measure I use around 2 cups cornmill, 1 egg, 1/4 cup oil, or melted butter, I use buttermilk enough to make a batter. I also use milk or water if needin . I bake it in my iron skillet I grease with butter or/and lard and heated in the oven 350degrees. Pour batter in and arrange a few slices butter on top. Bake till knife comes out clean in center. I don't like sugar in my cornbread when eaten with a pot of beans, or chili. Linney also makes the best grits, real grits ground whole corn. watermill. Here in North Caroline.

This is a good recipe. I found it before and tried it. This will be good. I eat it with Fritos or Doritos. You can make a good taco salad with this.I love Chilli-O seasoning pack.. You can make a quick chili by the recipe on the pack. It is good too. I love anything in my crock pot.

Hi Mandy!! Your recipe came across my feed …and when I saw it was a wendy's copycat..I had to click on it, as I love love Wendy's chili! This came out looking so similar and Im sure it was probably even better than theirs! I love that it is a crockpot recipe too. Nice to meet you and look forward to more of your recipes in the future. The cornbread came out fantastic and nothing beats baking it in a cast iron skillet!

    Hi
First time seeing your video. Loved it but I’m a southerner and we don’t like sweet cornbread.
Yours looked beautiful but more like cake. The mix you purchased is correct with a few changes.
Use buttermilk less or no sugar and about half the flour. Butter instead of oil and larger pan so it isn’t so thick.
There are lots of ingredients you can add and it will be very good. You did great. Keep on trying

The recipe for the cornbread you made is my favorite actually. I usually always get the self rising corn meal like you got and I always just use whole milk or in a pinch i have subbed for water. I never buy buttermilk because I don't know what to do with the extras. I love Wendy's chili and I have tried several copy cat recipes over the years and this one looks really close! πŸ™‚πŸ’™

That cornbread recipe is what my granny used except she added 1/4 cup brown sugar or honey instead of the regular sugar. If she was out of buttermilk she used a tsp vinegar in her whole milk

Happy Fall! πŸŽƒ I don’t remember giving permission to use my chili recipe! Lol I am just teasing my name is Wendy. I used to love Jiffy mix but they started putting in bioengineered ingredients in their product so I won’t buy them anymore. Not normal ingredients are showing up in a lot of name brand foods. So I bet Shawnee Mills cornbread mix now. I tired home made cornbread and dint like it so I flopped it. Lol, Ha e a blessed day. I hope you know I was just playing. WendyπŸŽƒπŸ™πŸ»πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Everything looks yummy! I have always used white lily buttermilk cornmeal mix (the one with the scarecrow on the bag). The recipe on the back of the bag. I use buttermilk in the recipe and real butter to grease my iron skillet. So yummy!

To make your buttermilk just add vinegar or lemon juice (let set about 5 min.) or you can even purchase powdered buttermilk at grocery stores. For less sweet cornbread just leave out some or all of the sugar.

While I've never made cornbread, was raised on my mom's and it never had sugar (when I was older and tried jiffy for the first time I was shocked!) The thing I loved most is that she used cast iron – heat it in the oven to get hot with oil (she used crisco) then when it's nice and hot, add the mix and put in oven. The most wonderful crust would form by adding to hot pan. And definitely try buttermilk, though can add vinegar to regular to get it to curdle and become a substitute in a pinch.

The first time I made homemade bread the crust came out as hard as a rock. My dear sweet husband didn't say anything about that and complimented how good the inside was. That gave me the confidence to keep trying and now when I make bread it's all gone before bedtime and my family is fighting over the heel pieces.

I found a copycat chili recipe that said use tomato JUICE and I LOVED that so that's how I like to do it. I also use salsa or pico (or both) instead of rotel and cuttingveggies, but I don't have a chopper.. yet.
