Yum! All in on the cocoa powder and will absolutely include that. And YES to the refried beans ~ that brings the pinto beans into the equation. I wish Thrive would do a few more types of beans (in their spare time, lol). It has been in the 90s here 🔥🌞🔥 so not sure how soon I will actually make this. But it is definitely going on the list. Thanks so much for another terrific recipe! 🌶🫑😋 💖

Back in the early 80s I and a fellow cook at a vegetarian restaurant learned the wonders of cocoa in chili when we accidently knocked the cocoa powder off the shelf and into the pot of vegan chili we were making. We scooped out what we could and surreptitiously stirred the rest in. HOLY MOLY!!! (or should I say mole'?) Finally, we made a good vegan chili with depth of flavor and bottom to it! Of course, we later learned that cocoa is a regular ingredient in savory dishes but it sure was a revelation to us!
