I buy inexpensive pie crusts at Aldis and I used one of those instead of this version. My family and I prefer the pie crust. Thanks for motivating this working mom (former SAHM) to get back in the kitchen and prep ahead. It’s saving us so much of me extra income. You guys are the best!

I’ve adapted my chicken pot pie recipe to be gluten and dairy free. I add a tablespoon of vegan mayonnaise to my White sauce. Herbamare seasoning works very well in my concoction. I’m using a cauliflower crust today.

Standing up for what is right is also how a friend stands firm about trying to help others. The lady has to learn the value of what is right. The person obviously does not spend their real money on the food, or do they do a proper shopping list and more than likely has not been taught to shop and cook. It seems she does not know how to nurture her children, how to shop for nutritious food, and this is something that they need to learn. It is called enabling when you give more than once and find out that they don't do it right. You do not want to enable her, you can tell her how to feed the children, you can teach her how to shop and cook, if she wants to she can learn to cook. Heaven help her and help the children. I know that children can be picky to eat only what they think is food, that can be a problem.

Most all canned food lasts longer than it's best by date. You can also take your canned vegetables and dehydrate them! and store them with oxygen absorber in a jar for using later!

A few tips on saving money we use is to wash our clothes only after wearing them several times ( hang them back in the closet after one use, repeat ) having less showers, ( wash in the sink during off days ) never waste water, ( save cold water when running it to get hot water ( use to water plants, pet dishes, cooking dinner etc ) using less Hydro, ( one lamp on instead of overhead chandelier ) walk to the store, use a sandwich plate more than once ( use a glass or plate all day instead of a new one each time ) run dishwasher and laundry on off peak times for hydro, eat leftovers and have a meatless meal twice a week. Love the show hope this helps people to save money in other areas as well as food.

If she really is a friend and someone she would really like to help, she should be honest and tell her she can show her ways to feed her kids on her budget…. Text her sale ads showing great prices and buy her the Living on a Dime Cookbook…. Next time she asks for money, tell her you will show her how to feed her kids on 50 a week and take her shopping and work on menus together using the food she bought. If the woman doesn't want to accept that kind of help, there isn't much else she can do.

When my nephews were young, they often didn't have enough food in the house (long sad story but not because of a money shortage), so I would sneak them meal bars to stash for emergencies.

For the record people….food stamps are meant to SUPPLEMENT your food bill…not take care of the whole months expense. She's spending her $ on alcohol which she clearly cant afford….she needs to grow up.
