Here in Tacoma we have an antique carosel at a shopping center. When I was a kid we were not made of money. My mom knew every free thing to do in town and how to squeeze the budget for the occasional cheap thrill. It was a full day outing to go to the B&I shopping center to see Ivan the gorilla, pay a nickel for a chicken to tell your fortune, buy a cheap t-shirt and get a carousel ride for $.25. Nice to see kids can still have that kind of fun. Though prices on the carousel have gone up!

Here is a rule I had with kids on a field trip. If you bring it, you carry it so be selective! My students started showing up with back packs with their drinks, snacks and anything they wanted. They carried it on their backs. LOL
