Oh, my father's special dish which was typically cooked in a black cauldron for our July 4th family reunion when I was a child. It was the time Mother "cleaned" her freezer of the prior year's remaining garden vegetables from the deep freezer and as she began canning from her present year's garden harvest. Slightly vinegary and sweet, it would cook overnight as he and his brothers swapped stories stoking the fire to see who could talk the loudest! While I have kept his recipe, I, like you, cook mine in the crockpot 8-10 hours with pork rather and chicken with the vegetables. Thank you for this wonderful memory and your recipe Leona!
