    I only buy buns when we have a cookout for family or friends. We use bread for ourselves. The buns never freeze well and we can’t use them fast enough since we are now empty nesters.

    I always sniff produce before I buy!

    Years ago people who used food stamps had paper currency. Today it’s a card that looks like a credit card. I remember one young girl with a baby buying a huge heart box of chocolates for half price the day after Valentine’s Day. Everyone saw the food stamp money and gave her dirty looks. I try not to pass judgement, as we all want treats for our families, especially if children are involved.

    I sniff, especially the potatoes. Aldi had bags of potatoes on sale, but there was that "smell" coming off them, along with lots of flies (probably hatching) too. I don't care for the quality of most of my Aldi's produce.

    One thing Im noticing watching these audit videos is that a lot of people seem to buy way more food than they really need. It seems like peope have 2nd freezers and 2nd refrigerators that are stuffed and the food isnt being rotated and eaten before buying more. I do believe in stocking up but especially when it comes to meat and freezer items, you need to know what you have and rotate through the food. If you have a freezer and pantry full of food, eat from the freezer and pantry. Then the only thing you need to buy each month is fresh produce, dairy, and other items you find that are at an exceptional sale prices …. but only buy it if you will actually eat the food. When I first started on my "frugal-ish" food budget journey, I figured out pretty quickly that you can still overspend by buying too much of the food you find on sale for a "stink'n" good price. This comment isnt directed at Gina, it just seems to be a pattern Im noticing in general.
    As to Gina, thank you, thank you, for sharing. You seem to be very organized and i can tell you are working hard to provide healthy food for your family and save money. I do say, you need to give yourself permission to just let go of items you bought or items you were given that you just wont use. Try to use it if you can, but you dont need to just keep something forever if you really dont want to use it.

    'Leftover Queen' here: Spaghetti RUTTS- I think 'fazoli's'. The 2nd time it's 'baked' spaghetti with mozzarella or cut up pepperonis. I use a lot of olive oil around a glass or metal pan so there's a 'crust'. You can also make a crust with the plain pasta add cheese and an egg and fill it. For just leftover sauce-use it as a dip for cheesesticks or breadsticks. The 2nd time is when I add the interesting sides: homemade breadsticks or a big salad. I also amp the veg the 2nd time like lots of green/yellow zucchini, can of spicy chilis diced tomatoes, fresh mushroom- whatever favorite veg. You can also airfry some breaded chicken or egg plant add a slice of cheese over top and serve the 'old' spaghetti as chicken parm. We eat a TON of leftovers, and rarely the same thing twice. When meal planning I rotate meal basics in my mind: rice/potato/pasta/tortilla/veggiebased/pork/chicken/beef/bean to help me creatively just come up with different combos ; )

    What I’ve learned from Jill is that just because you want it doesn’t mean you get to have it! Not if you want to save money. Maybe decrease the amount of fresh fruits and veggies by half. Also, what has worked for me is to buy the allotted dollar amount of fruit for the week and when your family eats it then they have to go without for the rest of the week. This also saves on rotten items.
