For luck: I try to clean the house and make things more tidy and easily accessible leading up to the new year.
I make sure I call/talk with most or all of my immediate family members for Christmas. Or New Years. I try to start off the new year with clean clothing, bedding, and self. For some reason this makes me feel better leading into the year.

For new year we cook something that swells in the pot. A lot of times black Eyed peas or rice. That will make you prosperous and make sure your pot is never empty.
We carry a dollar in our pocket to insure we will never be without what we need all year.
We sweep the porch and at 12am a man in your family enters in the front door and walks out the back, bringing the new year in and taking everything from the previous year out the back door.
When it was just my son and I, I'd walk him ahead of my through our apartment to bring in the new year. Lol

The winter solstice we eat rice dumplings too. There is a sweet version that has stuffing inside, be it red bean paste, black sesame, or peanut, and a savory version. I had the savory version. Bone broth is made then we dump I'm mushrooms, chinese sausage, daikon radish, dried shrimps and scallops then the plain rice dumplings. It's very yummy. Thank you for sharing yours. I will try that next time.

    Hey Maddy,
I just wanted to share an artist called Oneul with you! The music’s instrumental, cheerful tunes match your vibe perfectly. It’s really fun to listen to while cooking! 🙂
