when thinking about cost don't forget to add on the magazine you bought, the extra food and drink you bought and anything else you wasted money on whilst waiting for your car to charge. Money you wouldn't spend if it was taking five mins to fill up a car once with fuel. You do this everytime you take an electric car on a journey where you need to charge it and the extras will soon add up. Then take into account the high service station prices and you are losing everytime.
I was surprised Sam didn’t consider an electric car to replace x3m. He already drives around the loud and harsh sports cars regularly so he doesn’t really need all of that for a daily to use with the family. My dad got an I-Pace recently and I wouldn’t have it any other way because we still have our bmw e93 330i sports car, which gives the thrills of the straight 6 petrol. The I-Pace handles very well and is super quick. 0-60 in like 4.5 seconds. You literally don’t need an SUV for the family to be any faster. He only changers it at home with a 3 pin. We’ve only used public chargers on road trip, and they’re never a hassle when you hardly even do 8 road trip a year.
Are EV cars saving the planet? No of course not because there is no climate crisis. It's all a bunch of bunkum and bull.
A Golf GTD doing 60mpg for 500 miles will cost £56 which is 60% dearer than the EV costs. If you buy an EV, the pay off for (in my experience) massive fuel savings, you will have to spend more time refuelling. Also your experiences are so different from mine. I have done 12000 in 7 months and have never had to wait 75 minutes. I admit my ID.4 can charge at 125kw which does make a big difference. My advice Sam is go to places where there are multiple faster chargers. Love the show by the way.
Such pathetic cynical prejudice from Baldric the Bus driver..all Ferraris and Lambos are perfect though
Lovely
21:52 "If they aren't actually saving the planet, then what's the point?" You've arrived at the truth behind the "climate crisis", Tony. The point is to make money and increase top down control of people.
Not convinced with ev,s , all you get is there really fast but then take ages to to charge and not even much of a saving and also cost ro much money to buy
SL's Sell a lot in places like America, Germany, Middle East and South Africa
It’s purely about control. They’re mandating EV’s to control where you go and when you can go there. They’re a horrible idea and horrible for the environment. There’s no other narrative related to EV’s. Frankly we need to resist them. Not as petrolheads, but as a society that’s sick of overreaching hypocritical governments.
The Valkyrie in road trim still laps quicker than an LMP2 car so I don't think it'll fall into that category like the Senna.
Do trip to Norway, infrastructure for electric vehicles i set her. Almost all of new cars are now Electric.
still not sold on electric cars, how long will an electric lorry take to charge & what range would one have with a loaded trailer.
Like the push for diesel years ago the push for all electric is going to be a red herring, if these synthetic fuels will be able to work in older cars with ICE's thats the future think how much cost will be saved with all the cars that won't need scrapping
The largest bottleneck right now is charging times. But it’s hard for consumers and older people like Tony to grasp that the prototyping and certification process is happening fast and furiously. Teams at both MIT & Perdue Universities (separate innovations ) have developed charging cables allowing for a full charge at 1500 to 2400 amps, that’s a full charge in approximately 5 min.
The issue won’t be charging times or even locations, it will be can cities, rural areas etc upgrade the power grid sufficiently!!
The only EV that is any good is the local milk float
A Tesla Model S new from the factory is the equivalent in terms of emissions of a comparable petrol car being built and completing 33,000 kilometres
35:40 you mean like an RSQ8*? 🤔
Come on now Tony.. we all know if Max wasn’t taken out in Silverstone or Hungary he’d be even further up the road, I know Lewis is great but come on dude.
Creating an electric vehicle at the expense of a completely working combustion engine vehicle is a massive massive carbon impact, we need to move away from the high turn over bin and replace approach to consumables.
Would love to hear your take on the new Corvette zo6. Considering it’s going to be a global car with a right hand drive option. Seems like it’s going to be an incredible machine for the price.
Give me a shout Sam, Il be doing lots of videos on how we asses sites and build them throughout the UK and EU
