I have a family of 7 on one income. We only spend $100 a week for food. (That random 5th week we don’t spend anything.) I figure I could use $20 a week to start stocking up and the other $80 for groceries. Things will be a little tighter but I gotta do something.

Today I finished up my pinto bean storage fillup. I bought more orzo (I have about a gallon stored) and got my yearly supply of flour. And some canning salt and lids. I’m trying my best, but I really do not have a huge stockpile. If things hit the fan, maybe two months.

If you are just trying to fill your pantry so you can feed your family you are not going to care if the beans are organic. If they will fill ypur belly or your childrens belly it doesn't matter. 2 cans of organic is about what 4 cans of regular beans would cost. The same with the peanut butter, buy 2 jars of regular as opposed to 1 of organic. The canned chicken has alot of water which is great if you are making soup. It really doesn't have alot of flavor. I would skip the meat all together.

Good advice for everyone. One minor point I think you could have made to help folk a lot more is that used cans are so useful for other things , storage , made into mini-stoves, become candle moulds etc., Thank you for taking the time to put out your advice.
