Beryl your comment about cooking rice was really interesting. The method you did in the video is pretty standard here in the UK which may be linked to the history of Indian immigrants and well-established indian communities here, which was our gateway to cooking rice and curries. I always learn something from your videos

I have never seen bay leaves that big!
But, no, really truly bay leaves are an amazing extra. Both my parents used them and when I was young I, too, thought they were dispensable. That amazing, indefinable 'something extra' they give to simmered food though. It is like magic, and improves the second day too.

I am terrified of boiling milk! and I don't really like cooked milk anyhow, but I totally heart that young land saying we should be less wasteful – so I will try it!

I just recently had a very similar dish to the first one. It had caramelized onions and I didn’t catch the name of it, but it could be the same. It was very good and filling. I also added labneh, tastes like a cross between sour cream and yogurt

I enjoy your show a lot, but watching that little house plant sitting right by a hot stove is freaking me out. C'mon, you wouldn't sit your dog that near to something that's cooking. A plant is a living thing too.
