LOVE YOU SO MUCH! Thank you for being here on my celiac journey! ——-WHERE TO FOLLOW ME——- INSTAGRAM: …
This was very interesting…
LOVE this list! Thank you! Some adds: 1/ Chocolates. They are sometimes dusted w flour to prevent them sticking to each other, but wheat is not listed as an ingredient. They must be labelled as gluten free to be safe. 2/ Rice vinegar. This is sometimes started w a vinegar that contains gluten even though this is not specified under the ingredients. Depends on the brand. If unsure, contact the company. 3/ Condiments (ketchup, mustard). Look at the ingredients. I had to switch our yellow mustard. Basically the same product, but the prior one contained gluten. 4/ Be aware that the ingredients in a product may vary country to country. Your fave branded ketchup or oat milk may be gluten free in one country but not another.
This is a great video. I'm tempted to make something like this for dairy. My little girl has touch sensitive anaphylaxis and the struggle is real
This was so informative and I think this would be a great series to make! I'm not diagnosed celiac but still found this very interesting. Thank you for sharing and take care!
Hello! Token Aussie commenting on Coeliac thing reminding people no oats in Australia are safely certified gluten free (this includes oat milk), so avoid altogether unless you have specifically been biopsied on an oat challenge under the supervision of your gastroenterologist. Most supermarkets have quinoa flakes or brown rice flakes that can be used as a good alternative to oats ☺️
Where was this video over a decade ago when I needed it??? I’ve had a gluten allergy since I was two. I got more food poisoning than anyone I knew. It took years to figure it out and only after I did the elimination diet did we nailed it down. I did it multiple times as well to make sure that was my problem and sure enough it was. Even my testing didn’t come back positive. I was extremely sick and malnourished, got down to 94 lbs when I was my sickest. Been gluten free for over a decade now. It took so long bc of the the very things you mentioned in this video. I ate tons of salads, and the dressing would have it in there as well as croutons that were removed, but left crumbs, sauces, sausage, soy sauce, and a few others I can’t think of off the top of my head. I was always in the bathroom At restaurants sick before I could finish my meal, and most of my meals did not contain obvious gluten, it was hidden. This is the best video covering the ways it hides. I will save your video and forward to all my friends who are needing to be gf so they know and understand how to navigate this world. I personally just don’t eat out much bc I don’t want to get glutend. But most ppl don’t want to do that, they want convenience and enjoyment.
Thank you for this great video. You cover so much here that I am sure most ppl will find it both overwhelming and extremely helpful in their journey. It will certainly give peace of mind to those struggling. 🙏
More gluten free content please! This was so incredibly informative
Whoa.. quite a few ways I haven’t heard about before, the pasta water and the scrambled eggs!
I am celiac, used to have a reaction as a child, but I have no real reactions anymore when I eat gluten (possibly there is some small effect and quite likely neurological effect). So, even harder to know if I have been glutened and if I need to avoid a restaurant or ingredient.
Another thing to think about is buying coffee out with any milk in it, if they offer oat milk as an option. This is because the frother isnt always cleaned between uses.
Thank you for this content, great for us avoiding gluten and good for others to be aware of too 🙂
The mole surprised me. When we prepare mole there isn’t anything that we use that has gluten, but what the restaurants do, I have no clue. We have a local Thai restaurant that we get food from because they understand the gluten restrictions even with soy sauce & I was surprised that in sushis roll containing salmon there’s gluten because they use smoke salmon.
Okay because you put out a short yesterday about makeup and I love talking about it! I think you are absolutely gorgeous but here is what I think would enhance your beauty!
Your eyes are pretty dark and I would love to accommodate that darkness and harmonize it with darker brows and a tad darker bronzer for balance in the whole face! And also put a darker shadow in the outer part of the eye! And i see you in deep brown tones! Well that was My fun for the evening 😂
Yes, please . I deal with gluten, dairy issues. It would be so informative if you can please share more about the subject.
Thank you for sharing it’s so eye opening helpful.
wow. this was extremely helpful. I've worked in restaurants and have known i am celiac for a few years now and there is a lot in here that i didn't realize. part of the reason why i started eating meat again was so that, if all else fails, i can just ask for the steak with no sauce – but apparently this is why i could still feel horrible the next day! I need to start being more upfront about my disease in these situations, I'm always have such a hard time asking for what i need. your videos are incredibly helpful in not just informing me on what to look out for, but in having the confidence to voice concerns and ask questions. thank you, its really appreciated and needed.
Some of these have to do with the fact you live in Texas. Texas just adds flour and other things that don’t really need to be in the dish
For those that are celiac do you have to make sure your skin care products/shampoo etc are gluten free? I recently noticed a GF symbol on my body wash and it made me curious
My main takeaway is to be grateful I don’t have these food restrictions, this video is extremely informative!
You have so much knowledge on this subject! Have you ever thought about opening a gluten free restaurant. I think with your knowledge that be an awesome thing to try
Can you share what your symptoms when you consume gluten?
More please….
I dont get how you can eat pizza when its done in the same oven than normal pizza. the dust in the oven contaminates the pizza if its on a plate or not
I’d like to know how to get gluten free products that doesn’t break the bank!!!! It seems like any alternative foods cost triple!
For example: even though I am extremely grateful for “Nestle” they made an allergy free choc chip that doesn’t have dairy BUT I pd $5.42 a bag 😮 I bought 2 bags to make my son choc covered strawberries 🍓 for Valentine’s Day. Yes I’m one of those Moms that still give gifts to my adult children 😂❤. Why not! Anyway. I pd over $11(w/tax) so he could have a dairy free treat 😮. He’s allergic to dairy if y’all didn’t read my first post.
It’s so ridiculous we have to pay double or triple the price just to keep ourselves or our family/friends who have food allergies safe 😢
My son is allergic to dairy NoT lactose intolerant actually allergic! We had him tested by natural alternative doctor and western medicine (by blood work) he’s like 1 in 2mil that IS allergic 😢
So, donuts, bread, croutons, most flavored chips have milk, chocolate, hot coco, candy bars aka milk chocolate.
It’s sooo frustrating for him even though there’s more options now days it’s still not easy.
Any store bought sweet treats forget about it! Unless you go to a specialty bakery that has allergy free products.😒
So, as a Mom I feel for y’all who deal with allergies to foods if have to eat so careful.
He was born and mostly raised(we became snowbirds when he was 14 we winter in central TX) in Alaska and he’s 25yrs old now and growing up there was no options it was just don’t eat it. But it’s in everything.
Thank you!
This is an amazing video and needed!
Since you talked about malt, I came across a product(can’t remember what it was, to be honest, but I was looking for snack bars for my son) that was labeled gluten free on the package but when I read the label it said it had barley in it. So you even need to be careful with packaged store products as well and make sure you are still reading labels.
Also I love that you are doing this series! I just found out that I have a gluten sensitivities and my son, who is 2.5, has also had a really bad reaction to gluten. So, all that to say, this is really helpful!
🖐🏻 I am gluten intolerant. I still have issues finding ham that is safe. Some of these things you mentioned I didn’t know. I never really thought about the pizza being in the oven with other pizza’s and being floured to not stick. Also never thought about homemade tortilla chips at a restaurant. Thank you so much for this video, now I know why I feel icky at times after eating pizza and tortilla chips and queso.
Just went gluten free in October last year. My Mom has been gluten free for a while. Found a great gluten free fish and chips place. One fryer for the glutened fish, one for the fries and one for the gluten free fish. When I was leaving with my order I asked for vinegar and the server gave me white vinegar. I asked for the malt vinegar and they stopped me and pointed out it had gluten in it. I was so glad that he let me know that as it had not crossed my mind.
Can you please do a video on the side effects of being gluten. I just had my yearly and found out that my iron is low because of my celiacs. Is there anything we should be looking for if we have celiacs? Health wise.
My boyfriend has recently discovered that he’s allergic to gluten, eggs, dairy, & a few other things. Not sure if he is celiac yet, but watching your videos about your journey is so helpful! He is such a foodie & discovering this allergy has made it challenging for him. It’s also so crazy to realize how much food has gluten, eggs, & milk in it. I did recently sign up for thrive market which has been game changing. Thank you for sharing all your tips & tricks! ❤
I completely gave up eating out, and everything that's not what I made. Gave up getting any drinks out, especially coffee.
I did get to eat at one place a year back that was dedicated GF (way away from where I live) I sat there and cried.
Could you do video about your top 10 favorite gluten-free friendly restaurants in Austin?
Sauerkraut should be gluten free, it is made with salt, water and cabbage, no vinegar. Watch out for apple cider vinegar also, especially if it has caramel coloring. It probably is not gluten free. I see some other people explained the oat problem. You should also ask the restaurant if they use dedicated utensils and if they change gloves to prepare your meal. If they can't answer any of these questions, run to another place to eat. Make sure you are washing your hands with gluten free soap, otherwise, when you touch your food, you could be contaminating your food. The person preparing your food could also contaminate your food this way.
WARY
Chick fil A fries are not just potatoes so not all fries are only potatoes.
Also risk of cross contact in the kitchen.
Paleo is a good way to avoid gluten. Or if they share the pizza trays with gluten.
Barley can also be a sweetener and not listed as an ingredient.
Shared utensils, cookware, appliances can have gluten residue. Most restaurants say they sanitize equipment but gluten cannot be washed off. It binds to what it touches
There’s a pizza restaurant near me that actually has a separate oven just for their gluten free pizzas and they hand make their gluten free dough separately too.
With the oats, it's growing them. They rotate wheat and oats, wheat is really resilient and often comes back years later. My family had an alfalfa farm and there was wheat all over.
I’m not celiac, but it was an interesting video. Thank you.
Damm that’s crazy! Gluten is in so much of our food!
Thank you so much for making this! I personally am not gluten free but this is so helpful for me to better understand how to advocate for and cook for my gluten free friends! Sending you love. ❤
❤❤❤❤
I hate it for all those who have any sort of food allergy and cant just simply have food without having to make certain what is in it. Takes away the fun of eating. I would probably lose weight that way bc I wouldn't really enjoy it anymore
I am not celiac or allergic, but am always wanting to learn new things (especially things that could improve my eating habits). I have wanted to attempt to consume less gluten, which is easier to do at home, but I didn'tknow where to start when eating out. This was so helpful! Thank you for passing on such great info!
Great video. I'm a celiac in Austin, Texas. Any chance you might do a video on the various celiac friendly places you've found in Austin?
Michel thank you so much for talking about this! I have a gluten allergy, maybe celiac, and I’m in college. It has been so difficult to navigate! I love whenever you talk about gf foods in your videos because it gives me hope that this diet change doesn’t have to mean then end to my foodie adventures 😊
This was really helpful and mind-blowing! Info on how to read labels would be helpful too! Thank you!
Imitation crab is actually gluten free. There must be something they are adding to it in restaurants though. I was surprised by that one and looked it up. Checked about 5 different brands and they all state gluten free on the packaging.
This is so helpful!💛 I was recently diagnosed with celiac, and it has been overwhelming. I’m vegan( bc of food allergies and choice)too so finding gluten free protein sources has been interesting. It’s forcing me to eat really unprocessed and healthy foods which is a good thing, but challenging at times especially when eating out.
So much helpful information! I had no idea regarding the pancake batter/egg combo. It must be very challenging for you and other with Celiac.
My husband has to eat gluten free. I buy the trans ocean brand imitation crab. The seafood snackers. They are certified gluten free by the beyond celiac program. So you can make California rolls with this imitation crab!
This was really informative! No idea about the imitation crab in SUSHI! No wonder I had an upset tummy last time we had Japanese food. Thank you so much. 🇨🇦❤
