I loved hearing your views on this. Thank you. And thank you for being forthright in speaking about your faith in Jesus Christ! I feel like I've never been anything but a homemaker all my life 😂 I know I never wanted to be anything else. The Lord put in my heart a deep desire to be married and have children. But even then, I didn’t know how to raise children, or how hard things could be. I just knew what I had seen my mom doing as I grew up. She was a homemaker, and a hard worker. I learned all my skills from her. I miss her so much. But I'm so grateful for all of that, and that I can pass it on to others. A young mom visited our house on a Sunday after church one day, and she was watching me walk back and forth from the kitchen to the table. She said, "You're a servant." It kind of took me aback. But then I said, "Yes, I am." I'm not a slave. I choose to serve my family and the children I'm blessed to teach Bible lessons to. God is so good!

I’ve been homesteading for about 10 years and I’ve been watching you guys for many many many years. You taught me to can and bake bread and do herbal medicine and make cheese! My children that have been with me the whole time are growing up and not all of them want this lifestyle. How do I Deal with a teenager who wants to go get a fast food job and be out of the house a lot. I still need my farm hands and I miss the days when we all enjoyed this life together. It ends up being so much more work on the rest of us if some of them want to lead a different life now. So I’m trying to let them find their way a bit.

Question? How do you deal with situations where family and friends drop in? Being home has certainly come with challenges through the years, but I have found the last few years that I get bombard with family and friends that want to stop in or expect because I am home I am free to do anything. I do love to visit, don't get me wrong, I have just felt overwhelmed this summer with this topic. Is anyone else finding this an issue? And if so, how have you coped or handled it?

Thank you so much for this much needed conversation. Joy begins with Jesus at the center of our life and keeping Him there. I’m learning so much from your videos and the Traditional Skills School.

When I decided to buy my place people thought I was a little bit crazy. It’s just me. Except for one brother. He just talked to me about protecting myself. He’s gone now but I haven’t forgotten his support. I’m learning and growing even when it seems a little overwhelming. I just pick something and do it and remember why. The tasks even help clear my mind from jumbled thoughts. Joy and the delayed gratification…it’s good.

Carolyn, I have to ask, how do you make your coffee or cappacino?! Every time I see you with your coffee mug it makes me want a cup also and listen to what you have to say!

I'm just starting to homestead. I moved an hour away from friends and my church family. They seem to be moving away from me because my lifestyle has changed. I met a new friend in our new neighborhood that has helped a lot. It's taking more time for my city husband to readjust to our new lifestyle.

This is probably the most important discussion to have. The encouragement you offer is so welcome. I have no community but enjoy doing all the home grown pantry filling skills. I was looking to make apple butter and the recipe I found called for apple cider and I didn’t have any. So I looked up a recipe to make my own cider. And I did. It was such a blessing and joyful truth. So today, now that I have cider will make apple butter. Joy. Praise God!

Years ago a friend mentioned “blessing her home”, as she cleaned she spoke blessings over her home. I enjoyed that thought, so started using the same plan as I cleaned. Gave me joy to think of blessing my home—to be a blessing.

That’s great about the freeze drying book. There are so many newbies out there. I’ve got a lot of loads under my belt and it’s frustrating watching/seeing new people who have no idea how to get started. Thank you. As soon as it’s published- I’ll be sharing for you! I’m ok, as far as freeze drying, canning and freezing. But making cheese, I’ve got zero idea!

Thank you for this important message. I strive againm recently to 'be' a small homestead wife, seeing that our world governments are fighting against privately held land, farms, ranches, homesteads – alarms me and could steal my joy if were not founded in Father God. I pray that you and yours and all those who work so hard to supply their needs and those of their community will succeed and prosper. Please continue your wonderful, uplifting, much needed videos and education. Blessings to you!

I choked on my tea when Carolyn said, "You're going to get fought” because my audio made it sound like she straight up cussed, and I was like, ok, glad I'm not the only homesteader who cusses! Sometimes it really does feel that dire. 😅 (Thanks Joanne for the correction!!) In any case – Thanks for always being REAL with us. When you have discussions about these kinds of topics, I am always tuned in. The mindset shift is really the hardest part and the positivity of this channel is so helpful!

I think we are suffering from a "big things" mentality that we don't seek joy and gratitude in the ordinary, cause that is where the purpose and meaning in life comes from.

On the rehydrated cooked green beans, I think I would want to stir in some diced cooked real bacon right before serving, to give them a nice bacony flavor. The bacon could be pre-cooked and crumbled. Backpacker or hunter-friendly!
