I had been interested in the Lumen, but it was Dr Fung's video about it that convinced me to finally take the plunge and buy it. I should have returned it when it was still possible, but I thought I should give it a real shot. I stopped using it last Friday. Like you, I thought it would just tell me if I was burning fat, because I always wondered if I was doing enough to reach fat burn. Didn't know it would try to make me eat more carbs than I want. When you've woken up in fat burning mode a few days in a row, it gives you a Boost Day and wants you to eat 300 net carbs! I hate that thing and regret wasting my money by buying it! Also, had I known that I would need to track my food when using it, I would never have bought it.

Hi Nili, I've been following Jason Fung for a few years now, and I don't see Dr. Fung as someone recommending keto. He is for low/er carb diets which would help fasting. With Dr Fung and his programme any diet goes as long as fasting is part of the routine. Thanks for sharing info regarding Lumen, that's very interesting!

I clicked on the lumen link and took their so-called quiz. It said I needed to eat more carbs. There is never in your life any day a need for carbs. Gluconeogenesis is your liver making glucose when it needs it. It’s built in I don’t know why anybody would ever need to even consider this. No one ever needs more carbs. I would never buy that contraption.

I bought one about a year ago and stopped because it never told me I was in fat burning mode. Thank you for all your information. AT 75, this is all too complicated for me. The lumen is staying in the drawer and I am just doing what I know works for me.

Ever since you started to use the Lumen, I've been seeing many more commercials for it and it does not mention the eating plan at all in the commercial. I think that that is false advertising. It does sound like it would be useful for Keto but it says nothing about that at all. I am glad that you got that information and was able to pass it on for those who are thinking of using it. I am not.

Thank you SO MUCH for being honest and informative about the Lumen product and your journey. I am not "married" to the keto lifestyle, either, but I KNOW I MUST be low carb. My hubby is not keto, nor is anyone else in my family, so finding a way to be healthy, feel good, and have SOME common ground is my goal. With that being said, so many of your experiments and recipes have been a life saver for me along the way, so I cannot thank you enough. BLESS you in your journey to health!

Thank you for your interpretation of the lumen. I bought this lumen based on Dr Fung recommendation and was like you frustrated with the lack of upfront knowledge about the keto diet. I can’t possibly eat the amount of carbs they keep telling me to.

Nili, thank you for your honesty and your information on the Lumen. I had been very interested in how it works. I have been living a keto lifestyle for a year now and have reached my goal weight but I still find that I have no energy and I am not motivated to workout. I still have trouble sleeping; thankfully my digestion is great. I have found that there is no single method that fits everyone; we have to find what works for each of us. Who knows I might sleep better with some carbs added back in to my diet. Good luck with your experiment.

This was an amazing product review and video. Thank you for sharing what you have learned about the product. Ive been researching this product and have been struggling to find out how it really works with the keto carnivore lifestyle.

Thomas de L has switched to making it a business which is understandable. He recommends a lot of products way too much lately though that i unsubscribed from his channel. He also seem to not be able to make up his mind with keto or paleo anymore, too confusing.

Because Lumen pays someone to recommend their device, does not offer anything but self interest from creators. The device is expensive and is messing with people's ability to make reasonable decisions about getting healthy. Because there is a market for this kind of gadget doesn't mean we should all run out and make them rich. I becoming more offended by the day from creators accepting a role in promoting nonsense.

    Very interesting.
I got a Lumen several months ago and had many of the same concerns and questions that you raised… I just didn't know a lot of the explanations that you provided. I really came to regret the purchase and felt for me it was a waste of money

I came to the conclusion that I was better off just checking ketones so I stopped using it a month or two ago. I didn't realize all the things you are saying, but now hearing your take on it it all makes a lot more sense to me as to why I didn't feel like it was a good fit for me.

I heard about it through Jason Fung as well. Like you, I assumed that if he recommended it, that it was good for keto. Even knowing that his fasting protocol is not keto-specific, I did assume that it would be appropriate for keto.
And I did, and still do, trust Dr. Fung. But I can't help but think that there were financial motives for him to recommend this product.
