Whatβd you think of Daddy Lauβs recipe?
It really gives me a lot of perspective, what your dad said at the end. Tomatoes and eggs is such a common dish these days it's kind of hard to imagine home cooking without it!
I make this for myself a lot, my American wife doesn't like the mouth feel. It brings me a lot of childhood memories of mom, grandma cooking this dish. Simple and delicious. And in today's economy very affordable.
The cutting of the tomato is just genius.
Thanks for the video
One of my favorites dishes growing up was stewed tomatoes and scrambled eggs.
Our family has grown and canned their own tomatoes since I was a child. I have loved tomatoes of all types even then. I'd tell my grandma that I was hungry while they were all canning and she would scramble a couple eggs and take a ladle of the simmering stewed tomatoes (usually they had a bit of celery/onions/bell pepper too) right on the almost done eggs. Then send me and my bowl out to the porch to get out from underfoot.
My mother would also make this dish when tomatoes started ripening up.
Now that I'm the grandma and can the tomatoes I have been putting stewed tomatoes in the little 8 or 10 oz canning jars for my own small breakfasts.
I had not seen any other family make eggs this way until most of these great Asian chefs started putting out videos. I can almost taste this! Lol
Tortang Kamatis?
Awesome!
So nice to be listening to your Dad speaking Cantonese.
You don't add water when frying tomatoes. They already have tons of water themselves. Sorry but wrong method.
So many amazing tips on this popular dish! I canβt wait to try this with peeled tomatoes cut on the angle, brown sugar, and keeping it simple like this. And I remember our parents telling us how special and rare having an egg was too π
This is a traditional dish from Hong Kong. I've been eating this dish for 40 years and I was born and raised in Hong Kong.
One of my absolute favorite dishes that I learned how to make from my own dad. He also adds some brown sugar to his tomato and eggs dish. Next time, I will have to try out Uncle Lau's way with adding ketchup as well.
one of my favorite dishes. Should add beef in it be good as well.
I just made this. All I can say is the taste, the simplicity, the texture. Every bite was like heaven.
Thank you so much for creating this channel. I love watching Daddy Lau cooks and the interaction in the family is amazingly heartwarming as well.
Hello, hope you can teach us how to make beef brisket noodles (ngau lam min)π
Its Saturday 5:02pm Montreal time, i am sitting here watching and learning Mr.Lauβs fine cooking so i can impress my kid and wife. Thanks a ton guys!π
Mine has pineapple and chicken. I need my meat. Thanks for the original recipe
I grew up eating combination of scrambled eggs with tomato and shrimp, a "blind man scrambled egg:s" (
ηδΊΊηθ). But i cannot find this anywhere. Only eggs with tomatoes only or with shrimp only. Does your dad ever make eggs with tomato and shrimp?
legit misen discount code you've got there
Still liking the videos, but please please PLEASE bring back the table talk it's what made your vids so unique and lovely.
Iβve been watching for some time now for the amazing recipes, but I just have to tell you, I will also watch sometimes when I miss my grandpa. He passed away 3 years ago and Papa Lauβs voice sounds so much like my grandpa and it brings me to tears every single time. Iβm especially missing him today and he used to make this dish so thank you for this. β₯οΈ
i love seeing this π my mom made me ketchup fried rice and i always thought it was weird since when I told my friends, they were disgusted when its actually really good. Your dad is helping me realize that those other people are the weird ones, and that i've been eating normal things!
I'm not a big fan of tomatoes, but I love this dish! My dad makes it with garlic and brown onions and also he includes chopped spam because we're total carnivores. It's delicious and probably one of my favourite dishes of all time. We eat it with rice.
I would mention that cooking tomatoes (and other acidic ingredients) degrades the seasoning/pationa of carbon steel. If your carbon steel is really old and really well seasoned, then it's not a big deal to occasionally cook tomatoes. But if you're trying to develop good seasoning, then cooking tomatoes often will counteract your objective.
I am anxious to try this out, never had it in my 68 years. Wonder why my mom never made it?
Aaah! Fahn keh chow dahn!!!π π₯ My parents would make this occasionally when we were having a late dinner or in a rush! Sooo good! No ketchup though,.. Thanks so much for the memories! π€πΌβΊοΈ
Edit: I need to have your Dadβs tomato cutting technique on loop to learn! π¬
Can we have a video of Uncle Lau showing us how to season a carbon steel wok/pan?
That's a fantastic way to do up eggs! Nicely done Lau family!
This is really a wholesome dish to warm your belly on a cold rainy day.
In other videos, some chefs or vloggers don't recommend acidic or tomatoes being cooked in carbon steel pans/woks since it will remove the seasoning and the dish will taste like metal. What would be your reaction on this and what would you recommend for carbon steel users that are not professional chefs. π
See these are the kind of things that I miss my grandmother could make a rose and I never paid attention to her when she would do it so yes thank you Randy this is a blessing this is a skill little seems like this you have to learn from your grandparents or your parents it's the best to pass on its a tip in the kitchen how great can you get it there is no greater and I'm so glad you're sharing your dad's talents with us thank you…πππππ
Delicious
Lovely dish!! Love it π
Been waiting for this!! Thanks so much for showing this classic dish β€οΈ
While I understand all channels need to monetize to keep going, I really wish you didn't put in-content adverts like the other commercial channels do. It takes away the feeling of sitting down with your dad and lkearning from his wisdom.
I was wondering why Popo never cooked this. Answer came at the end. I think my uncle would like, I'll use him as a guinea pig.π
