A new subscriber here and fellow Wisconsinite! I'm following along with the Crocktober group and am having so much fun watching you all share your wonderful recipes. I love ribs and just so happen to pick up some fresh Lake Nokomis cranberries. Can't wait to try your ribs. Never done them with cranberries, love this!

    Dinner looked delicious!

I’m sorry your cranberry bars didn’t turn out so well. If you ever make the mistake of adding baking soda to a recipe when you need baking powder you can add Cream of Tartar and corn starch to save whatever you are making.

Here is how to make homemade baking powder: mix one part baking soda to one part cornstarch and two parts cream of tartar. For example: 1/4 teaspoon baking soda + 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar + 1/4 teaspoon cornstarch = 1 teaspoon homemade baking powder.

The other option is to add an acidic liquid such as buttermilk or lemon juice to the mixture. However baking soda is 4 times as reactive as baking powder so you would only need 1/4 of the amount called for in your recipe.

For 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, you need 1 cup of buttermilk or yogurt or 1 teaspoon lemon juice or vinegar.
