That's exactly how I see my "seasons" of eating. From January to mid April I have a quiet, leaner season of eating because there are no birthdays or holidays. This year I've had great success during this particular lean season to shed 5 pounds eating lean days inspired by you. Then mid April until early May we have Easter, my son's birthday, and mother's day, so this is a "feasting" season. (I'm up about 2ish pounds, but I know I can go back to lean days and it will go back down.) Then we have another longer break until the end of October, with maybe some long weekends, vacations, or short holidays during that time. Then October 30th through the new year we have my daughter's birthday, Halloween, my birthday, my husband's birthday, thanksgiving, Christmas and new years. So this is definitely another feasting season, with a 2ish week break between thanksgiving and Christmas. I really look forward to the lean seasons after the feasts.

I am glad you brought up the “diet mentality”, it really is detrimental on many levels. I hope your birthday is filled with love. Wishing that adorable little Levi a very Happy Birthday too!

Great observations that are definitely thought provoking…..seasons of life…..they also seem to change based on ones age as well. I have found as an older adult (will be 70 in June) that even the celebratory times can be leaner and still be abundant! Happy birthday! You and my son share this special day!!

That’s how I’ve been staying in maintenance so easily for 8 months now . I used 3 super lean days a week to melt the 40 lbs of fat in all the right places and have 1 super lean day a week to stay here along with daily dog walks and 3 days a week dumbbell workout in my bedroom 😹. My lean days are as much lean protein as I want. This has been working for me for 16 months now. It’s satiating enjoyable and sustainable and such a great tool for fitness.

I agree Nili. Eating seasonal is like our ancestral did. This is like reverse and cutting phase/diet since I do resistance training 3x a week. This is how I lost 74lbs doing keto/low carb high protein & kept off for 2 years. I do not feel deprived for holidays or celebrations & realize food has no morality..

Great thought processing of how to adapt and adjust to your way of eating for sustainability! 🌸 (I have Tone device and experimented with a few carb bites. 2 bites birthday cake raised Tone into fat burning mode (“falsely” according to Vanessa), so I agree, we can’t use it to see which foods cause ketosis, because that would tell me “eat cake to burn fat!”. I agree only fasted in morning is a better representation on the device of any fat burning.

Happy birthday! I am making your egg white bread, crepes and hot pockets and they're delicious. I feel so satisfied after eating them! What do you mean when you say you "eat to hunger"? Does that mean you eat until you're satisfied? Or that you stop eating before you feel full? Or does it mean something else?

I love that you live your life and enjoy yourself and family and that a particular way of eating isnt all consuming. I do love your lean days and have found that's really the thing that works for me, too.

What a beautiful background on the swing. I’m always amazed at your thoughts. You are so good at conveying them. I totally agree about what you said about being carnivore. I do eat meat and chicken a lot but if I went full blown carnivore I could not stick to it at all.
I follow Dr Westman’s page 4 on phase 1 still. It’s easy and really no macros involved. My husband started with an A1C of 8.7 and now at 5.8 as of last week. It’s taken almost a full year but it worked.
Hope you have a wonderful birthday tomorrow and look forward to hearing what you have to celebrate. 😘🥳🥩💗

My goal is to get to the space where I forget to eat. I've known several older folks who say that they forget to eat . . . my dream. I would love to forget about eating.

I am 70 and mostly ketovore and feel so good. As summer creeps in and gardens begin to grow I will find myself eating more veggies than I have been doing and I will see how I tolerate that change. Being already through the raising of a family I don't have a lot of temptations to take me away from my eating pattern. Just got more baby chicks so when they start laying I know eggs will dominate my diet. Thank you for your insights. Always makes me think about things

Yes, I eat pretty much the same way. I follow the ketogenic principles 95% of the time, I eat when I’m hungry and I plan occasional “ off plan” meals, but not off plan “days”. That is the key for me. If I ever veer off into a 80/20 plan, instead of 95/5, I will notice a creeping up in weight and fat. Planning and intention !
    That is how I maintain.
Keep up the great work Nili, I appreciate your talents!

Happy Birthday Nili! And Happy Birthday to Levi! Your swing brings back so many good memories for me of the swing my grandfather put up in a big pine tree when I was small. I spent many an hour swinging and playing around that tree.
I believe in the lean and plenty times you talk about. I was eating lean during the winter but I made the decision to add back in cheese in February and it has not worked out. I have sinus and digestive issues with cheese but was hoping it had improved with time. Nope, so I will be backing away from cheese and trying to drop as many of the dairy products as I can. My challenge to myself is to learn to eat when really hungry and not eat to the clock which I was doing. As we draw into spring and summer, I will also go back to more keto as I love fresh salad greens from the farmer's market this time of year. Listening to my body is super important.

I have tried PSMF. Before and the calories are so low I am hungry all day. I think I will try doing lean days instead. Where I eat low fat, low carb but not worry about the calories so much. Eat to hunger. Thanks for the video! Love following you I have learned so much!

I have been folowing Wendy's challenges on Loving it on Keto since February, have lost more than 17 lbs, after a bit of a stall, doing so. I have about 30 lbs to reach my next and last goal weight of 150, having started at 270 in September 2020. May is going to be back to more Ketovore for me mixing it on some to keep my body guessing. It is also my birthday month too. Tell Levi Happy Birthday next week, he is such a cutie, as are all of your kids!
