My opinion is that we shouldn’t complain about market specific bottlings like the Bunnahabhain Taiwanese release. Should automakers known for their performance sports cars be criticized for producing smaller, more affordable models tailor made for the smaller European streets? If Bunna 12 and 18 are still fantastic, then just enjoy what’s available to us.
They look like the glasses I use, they are for fortified wine!
thoroughly enjoyed that. Think it was useful to have you sharing your thoughts and take on the OSWA. The quiz not so much – 7/10. Remember, remember the '6th' of november 😉
Wow, Roy. Had to bail half way through the live Pub and I am still trying to catch up lol!! You must be getting pointers on long Vpubs from our friend Alan at Whisky Friend. Really proud of this OSWA endeavor and thank you for leading us barflies into this wonderful era of true whisky appreciation. Still have to take the quiz. Cheers

Superb as always…and yes turbo is tiring but easing myself in after being hit by a car. Outside riding not possible for a good while which makes your content and others a real help to pass the drudgery. Really looking to the OSWA night and given the unusual time/date may manage to pop in “live” 👍🥃
Watched the live and just saw replay and took notes. I voted and was pleased to take part in this excellent initiative dear Roy. Thanks 🙏 kindest regards, SF
this made me shopping for Talisker 18 for when the days are getting colder now.. i like a salty, briney whisky very much
The Arran 10 has too much sweet acidity for me, I just can't get past that unfortunately.
Good to hear a modicum of defense for the humble HP12, which definitely plays its role in getting non-whisky drinkers into the whisky orbit, even if it chooses to do that at a disappointing 40%. And reassuring to hear that the Longrow 18 and Talisker 18 bottlings are still doing so well with so much to offer (though availability of the Longrow is perhaps a pertinent issue here). Getting back to the cask maturation of the old Arran 10 (up to 2018), you must have forgotten what James MacTaggart told you in your vPub of November 5th just last year. He confirmed there were just 10% to 20% of ex-sherry Hogsheads (American white oak) in the cask mix, with predominantly first-fill ex-bourbon taking the lead, and some refill barrels making up the dross. James remarked that it was that small proportion of refill sherry hoggies that contributed the colour to the old Arran 10. I still hanker after that previous mix and find it preferable to the new iteration in the new livery. But time marches on, and of course, distilleries have to re-consider their cask maturation mix according to available stocks and anticipated future demand. Shall look forward to the announcement of the winners of the OSWAs. Many thanks for taking the initiative and putting in all the admin work to get the idea started! Cheers.
Dear Roy, another great vPub and once again: thank you for setting the OSWAs up! Just let me mention two things: The Bunnahabhain 12 does state on the Label "natural colour". And: There are "cloudy" whiskys on the shelf: Signatory Vintage offers a "very cloudy" range… Sorry for being a wannabe-smartass 😉
Great watch again Roy! Was great meeting you at the club and hope to see you at the next one! Looking forward to seeing the results of the oswa's
Excellent Vpub Roy. Your content is always interesting and educational and delivered in such a serene way. I’m glad the Arran 10 gets so much praise because I just love the stuff….having said that I love all of the nominees in the two categories you covered but Arran is the stand out. Slainte 🥂
Am busy on Thursday evenings so have to watch the replay – great stuff Roy. Being a bit of a ranter myself, it's always enjoyable to watch someone more educated going off on one 🙂 Was in Perthshire last week and visited Dunkeld Whisky Box (you mentioned they are joining the OSWA retailer list?) – great wee shop and great chat – well worth a visit for anyone going up the A9.
Some amazing Whisky has been selected for these awards. I was lucky enough to spend some time in Billy Walker's presence last month, and what he did at GlenAllachie didn't sound like rocket science. He just knows the value of cask management and quality of casks. Right, the important stuff now. 7/10 on the quiz. All the best chap👍
So wonderful you’re able to pay top dollar.
Excellent VPub Roy. Didn’t expect you to open an earlier bottle of Arran 10 from your collection when you answered my simple question, felt a little guilty. but thank you for the comparison . Cheers Roy an enjoyable two and a half hours. P.S,Glencadam 10 was also my choice for best entry level malt. Slàinte.
Fruit fly solution – pour a tablespoon of cider or sherry vinegar into a small shallow bowl. Cover with cling film and make two small holes in the film with a very sharp knife or BBQ skewer. The fly is attracted in and drowns happily. Not suitable for Vegans.
Solo Roy Duff and barflies is what I’m loving at the moment.
VPub and chat is what I look forward to every week and every Thursday.
Like your content but just find these videos way too long. I get the the need and the appetite for an occasionally longer event, but since subscribing I only seem to come across these particularly long (for YouTube) videos. Would love to see shorter content that wouldn't consistently dominate an entire evening on a working day.
Best of luck with the OSWA's.
"only" 7/10 on the quiz – had to go to bed so I did it on the replay
Thanks Roy for all your time and effort with the OSWA!!!!
Are you going easier on us with the quizzes Roy? I’ve been getting 7’s and 8’s and my Malt Whisky Yearbook just arrived today.
Great to enjoy the Vpub on catch up Roy. I managed to pick up an older version of Glen Scotia Victoriana in Itaky for £54, first pour and its absolutely delicious. What are your thoughts on Port Charlotte 10, often overlooked Islay in my opinion that I would put ahead of Ardbeg and Laphroaig 10. Cheers, Ramiz
Great Vpub again Roy. Just a couple of questions:
When you were talking about the Bunnahabhain 12 you said possible colour added but on the bottle I have it says natural colour. Is it different over in Scotland or am I missing something?
Also, have you ever looked into Australian Whisky? Wouldn't mind seeing a Vpub looking into it, there are some interesting ones to find
Great show Roy cheers 🥃
The replay ability is great. Podcast style, then a little bit of watching, perhaps a 30s rewind. You need that with young children, work and other obligations. Great as always Roy👍 Update! (After rewinding, watching again). Talisker 18. I did not expect much from it when I tried it the first time but I found it great. Very well balanced and “Moreish”. Can’t go back to Talisker 10 now. This is from me who usually prefer younger whiskies.
I must confess a guilty pleasure to you all. I PREFER to watch the replay SOLEY for the chat!!! My dear friends you are brilliant and I pine for the time I can meet up with even one of you!! The chat is where the opinions of the enlightened whisky prophets put the typed word to the world! So much loving this amazing group that has developed, humbled and privileged to be in your company, form eastern canada 🇨🇦🏴🥃🥃🥃🥃
The Shelter Point and Alberta Premium Cask Strength on the top shelf are making me happy! Cheers from Ontario, Canada.
Also, pretty lucky to get HP 12 at 43% here.
Another fab evening spent in great company in the Vpub. Nice to have some of the mentioned drams on hand to sip alongside your evangelising! Look forward to seeing what the next couple of Vpubs bring to light. Thanks and slainthe…
Thank you Roy
