Unfortunately the word "diet" has been misused so long it presently has amongst its meanings the purposeful restriction to cure some condition or lose weight, likely short-lived. The word comes from the Latin "die" (dee-yay) for "every day". The original meaning, as you pointed out, is still used in reference to animals. It is unfortunate we are forced to (in turn) misuse the word "lifestyle" in order to convey that this manner of eating will likely be in perpetuity in some form as "lifestyle" is meant to encapsulate many more aspects of living than just food. In fact the keto lifestyle is more of a philosophy because one begins to be concerned about advertising, food labeling laws, food manufacturers, manufacturing processes, pharmaceutical linkages, medical personnel training, and censoring once one enters any version of lower carb eating or using food for wellness. The heart of the matter lies so much in not accepting misinformation wherever it has trickled to and in whatever form it has taken. At times, I have to stop talking about such things lest I sound like a wacko conspiracy theorist to the uninitiated. Thanks for your thoughts and have a great time on your short (and well planned) anniversary!

I have been on this journey since the 7th of July. and am down over 40 lb. I would have failed miserably without the ability to make 'sweet" treats and bread substitutes. I started with a single Dash mini.. now i have the big 4 slot beast, 2 griddles, and 3 extra singles for emergencies.. Thanks for doing the research and sharing your results with us, the Dirty KETO Club. Happy anniversary to you and your Wife..

I’m 61 just started two weeks ago, your channel and some others gave me the courage to take control of getting back to my healthy and more proper weight which hit a high of 325. My goal is 196 and a size 36” waist. I definitely consider it a lifestyle change. I will be as strict as I can to start then experiment along my journey as long as you’re in ketosis it’s KETO so it doesn’t matter what others say. Like you said what works for you won’t work for others just listen to your own body. Keep up the great work and the fun you have with creating your own versions recipes can’t wait to start trying some, the chicken noodle blew my mind will be attempting that. Anyway happy anniversary and enjoy your time away from YouTube we’ll be waiting patiently for your return

First of Steve, congrats on the 25 years. I'm in my 33rd. And I thought you were talking about us. I'm quiet, she is very outgoing. I think we have nothing in common. But never looked at it like you as intermingled personalities. Definitely ups and downs but We have 2 girls and I'm sure our combined love for them helped. I think it's a country song but I've always looked at marriage like a tree in a storm. If it gives it survives. If not, it breaks. As far as keto it's guys like you that actually make it exciting. I enjoy cooking so there's always something new to try. I'm down 45#and loving it. Rules definitely would make it tough.

    Congratulations on 25 years!
My way of keto is currently ketovore, for me, the toxins in veggies are very bad. If I followed the Scientologist chiropractor with his 7 bushels of veggies a day, I'd be in the hospital, however, many people don't have that sensitivity and his way of keto is 100% better for them than the SAD.
Fine-tune what works best for you and keep optimizing your health everybody

Any way of eating that helps you lose weight or improves health issues has to be a lifestyle. If you are eating a specific way for specific reasons and you go off, the problems resurface. Keto is no different than any other way of eating in that way. If I could only eat off a list I wouldn't be using your channel to get great recipes. I have no interest in having such a narrow focus on foods. I don't want to live a life where I never have another slice of pizza or piece of toast. Ketofied recipes allow me to enjoy my food and stay on plan. I love your recipes and channel. Honestly, I don't understand why people who only eat specific "approved" foods are watching your channel in the first place. This simply isn't the place for them. Just like a channel for people who only eat "approved" foods is not for me. I would never watch one of those channels and then tell people what they are doing "wrong". I guess some people can only feel good if they are harassing other people. YOU ARE GREAT Steve.

Great podcast. I’m in total agreement with your take on keto as a lifestyle or basic guidepost to healthy eating. I know that increasing some types of starches knocks me out of ketosis, whereas others don’t (and sugar always does). So keto as a guidepost just keeps me going in the right direction, but doesn’t limit me. It also allows me to stray and then easily get back on track.

Hi Steve!hope you have a great anniversary trip with your wife. I do think of keto as a diet and lifestyle. For me I will stick to mostly keto because it helps reduce severity of my seizures. I cycle between very clean keto, when I have cravings then dirty keto because I make treats. Every few months I will have super high carb meals with family or friends. I agree that people have to find what works for them. Thanks for the awesome videos!

Life style not a diet for sure. Doctor wanted me on statins and I refused. Went on keto 2018 dropped 20 pounds went back to the dr for more blood work and she asked me what I had done? I told her the opposite of what you told me to do which was low-fat (and had been doing for over 40 years) I said keto to her. I asked her how was my blood work? She said I didn’t need to go on statins anymore . I never went back to her office again.

I'm glad you told people about monk fruit. I feel the same way that products labeled monkfruit like Lakanto (which I like) is mostly erythritol. Pure 100% monkfruit is extremely expensive. Thanks for saying what 100% monkfruit tastes like bc I've never tried it.

Hey Steve I love your channel and All your recipes. Hubby and I are making this a lifestyle. My hubby’s sugars have never been so low consistently ever. He’s been a diabetic for over 30 years and suffered a lot of medical problems due to it. I need to keep our plan as close to “real life” as I can so that we don’t get discouraged and chuck the whole thing.
We watched the movie – Fat-Fiction- full length movie free on YouTube. After watching that movie he FINALLY got it and stopped fighting me about changing our diet. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it 😉.

The kind of people you mention in the video (the kind that say "this or that isn't keto") are some of the biggest problems in this world. These people really need to shut up and educate themselves and realize that not everyone is the same. Also, the dictionary definition of "diet" is both "the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats" as well as "a special course of food to which one restricts itself, either to lose weight or for medical reasons." I think which one you should use boils down to your intention. Do you plan on just eating keto, for example, just to lose weight and then go off it (ie. going on a diet, which is temporary)? Or do you plan on just changing your eating style for good? In this case, it's just your diet — the foods you eat — and even if your diet is similar to others' diets (again, ie. keto) it may share the same principles, but each can and will usually look at least a little different and sometimes very different.

Definitely a lifestyle. I think you could take exactly what you said, retype it in my comment, and you’d have my story. My husband is not keto, but we’ve made it work. We eat pretty simply. He’ll eat keto meals, or sometimes not. We just make it work without me compromising my lifestyle.

You guys seem to be like my husband and I and I say to people we are like yin and yang. Opposites that fit into each other and complement each other. I make recipes of the normal food I used to eat but keto-ise them. I don’t freak out if I don’t stick to a certain number of carbs per day. Works for me. Take care from oz

So funny! 🤣 I pack like your wife. My hubby of 34 years will pack his clothes and I’ll go back and add a couple more of each of his. Here I thought your wife is the quieter of the two of you. I guess she’s still getting used to being on camera. It’s fun when she joins you and I’m sure she’ll get more used to it. 😊 You have a beautiful family.

Thanks for sharing those touching stories about your 25 years together, Steve. Please just do be careful sharing your whereabouts on social media, especially before you go out of town. I would like to think that we're a safe community, but you can't be too careful with crimes of opportunity considering how large your channel is now. Can't wait to hear how it went when you get back though.
