I love green bean casserole. I’ll try your version. I never cut the onion horizontally as onions have natural layers. I just do the vertical cuts as you do and then shift it 90 degrees and cut again. Done.

Not really a fan I do it with out the gravy but my hubby loves it. A good pointer though, after you cut the onion in strips downwards then cut in chunks any size. If you look closely at it it's already the onions are already cut in pieces.
