I've been doing this technique for years to make home made pickled eggs. Hard boil them, let cool, peel, then into the used brine that has been strained thru a paper towel.. Two weeks or more depending on your preferred strength. Really good and easy.

Not sure what the differences are but the sandwich slice brine is my favorite. Definitely produces a different flavor from quarters, halves or wholes. The first re-use is almost as good as store bought. By the second re-use you can really taste the difference (not bad but, meh). I have mixed new with store bought with "mixed" results. Sometimes it turns out great but sometimes the new "water downs" the store bought pickles. By all means, re-use the pickle jars for this. No need to use up your mason jars.

You can do the same thing with Jalapenos and juice. Carrots, celery, onion, cauliflower to one jar of peppers. Most resteraunts make their spicy vegtable peppers this way.

Can you just use the same empty jar that you just ate all the pickles from, and add your boiled eggs to it? Sounds good, but I'm just concerned about how long they would last.
