The only gift wrapping trick I know is to take a pencil or pen and press it to a ribbon and run the circular edge along the ribbon to the end over and over. This gives the ribbon a nice curl at the end and when done with multiple pieces of ribbon gives a nice bow effect.

I gift wrap with tin foil. That way I could reuse the foil to make a pizza after the gift's been opened.
