OMG we have 3 trees of it. In our hometown we call it “Tree Brinjal” but in other parts of my country 🇳🇵they are mostly known as “Tree Tomato”. During its season we eat it daily by making its sour and spicy pickle and we also preserve it for off-season in both spicy and sweet version of pickles.
In Malaysia they call it buah cinta
It means love fruits

In colombia its called tomate dulce, sweet tomato and we make juice w it in the blender just adding water some sugar. Delicious, I miss it 🙁
I managed to find these years ago at my local grocery place (when they actually gave a damn about variety when it came to produce) along with some more exotic fruits. IIRC the variety was also reddish to orange and had the same savory quality you described. 'Weird Explorer' actually made a ketchup from the stuff and it looks and sounds pretty good!
