Turmeric is really cheap in the UK, even in supermarkets you get a huge packet (about 10 times the jar you show) for about 3 dollars. My Mum makes a rice which is used for vegetarian stuffed vine leaves which is just rice, chopped tomato, chopped onion and a handful of dried mint leaves crumbled into it I think.
