Nice! I’m Serbian and I’ve been making and eating these literally since birth 😂 most people make it with meat so since I went vegan I just opted out of meat and kept the rice, carrot, onion, and celery. Never made them with lentils but Ill try it! Good swap for some extra protein 👍🏻

This recipe can be done with vine leaves also. In Greece we use parsley, dill and mint in this. Also you can serve them with bechamel sauce on top. Do you have a recipe for bechamel sauce? Can we ask you to recreate other recipes? This recipe is not in the cookbook. Are you publicing another cookbook also?

This is a traditional East European dish and i ALWAYS hated it, as the combination of cabbage, meat and sour sauce produces an atrocious odour. Thank you for showing us this vegan variation, i'll try it. By the way, we usually eat it with a help of a knife. It shouldn't be too soft 🙂

Good tip for everyone…I freeze the cabbage whole for a couple of days..,,,then take out and let thaw out…Then you will able to peel the cabbage without too much fuss…the leaves will come off easily.

Yeah, I was wondering when you started out saying this was easy what method you were using. I made a vegan version of these last year and although enjoyed them, found it to be too time consuming and labor intensive to have on a regular basis. Clearly there is no shortcut for this dish.

My mom is Lebanese, and I grew up with lots of cabbage rolls lovingly made by my grandma. They always contained meat, and I’ve been wanting to “veganize” them for a while. Was thinking of replacing the meat with lentils. Thank you, lovely Jill! 😘💗❤️

If you put the cabbage in the freezer overnight, you can skip the parboiling.
