This is a good one Kent! Been waiting to see if you'd ever make the beloved "tatter tot hot dish" as it's known here in the Midwest. There's so many variations of this dish and that's what makes it so good. I make my own cream of mushroom soup and add a cup of frozen peas and corn. I place the tots on top of the cheese but I don't like to mush them down so they get a little more crisp on all sides while cooking. So much like a shepherds pie and delicious, no matter what variation you use. 🙂

0:00 put frozen tater tot in mouth

0:16 outside pieces of tater tot are flaking off fully saturated in saliva. The flavor at this point is reminiscent of freezer burnt fish sticks 👌

0:40 larger chunks have formed and flaked off and now it's just one smooth frozen potato chilling frigidly on the inside of my cheek. At this stage we're gonna rate the flavor a .04 out of 10. This is not tasty.

4:38 after numerous attempts to bite this frozen hobbit potatoe into smaller pieces, I've decided based on the merit of photosynthesis and pyrokenosis to spit this out but thanks for sticking around. Bye for now.

Looks wonderful! I’m fat enough, so I think I will lighten it up with ground turkey, a little less butter, and use plain, shredded potatoes instead of the tater tots (less oil, I can put just a dash of oil and brown them in the air fryer before use). Progresso makes a gluten free onion soup for those who need it

    Seriously, Kent???
    Just call it "shire sauce"!!!
And I have to get my taters browner than that, and add cheese on top after browning.
Always have cheese below and on top of taters.
Homemade mushroom soup is better though, and better for ya.

I make this recipe very often for my large family. I put it into flour tortillas into burritos, then I toast up the burrito in my cast iron skillet. Sometimes if I make it for breakfast, I'll add in scrambled eggs. This is such a wonderful frugal recipe. Thank you for posting it up.

This looks amazing! We use Tater tots a lot in breakfast casseroles but this is gonna be a great night time addition! ( other than just plain tots as a side dish!) Kudos to Madge for being so obedient and having restraint! I had 2 little Schnauzer sisters who were the best companions but my oh my did they have minds of there own! They would hardly ever come in when I called so I had to come up with a "key word" ! It was "tomato"!! Came running in every time! (To a little piece of tomato of course!😉)
