Hey Sara, is there any need to refrigerate your bacon grease? My grandma used to funnel it into a glass jar that she kept under the sink…we never got sick. What’s your method?
    Love you!!

Clicked so fast! This is a lot like my mom used to make, although my dad liked to put a can of stewed tomatoes or even a can of Rotels for spice in his. Yummy!

Red beans black beans with 2 cups of veggie broth, a green pepper, onion and garlic with a can of crushed tomatoes, cumin garlic powder onion powder oregano and chilli spice mix! Oh and green lentils. Trying to eat less meats and this was so good and only takes 12 minutes not including the time it took it pressure

I LOVE pintos (soup beans here) but can't handle gassy foods. I learned yrs ago while working as a cook in a country kitchen that if you'll add 1/2 of a 12.oz Regular Coca cola to your water before cooking it kills the gas! It does not change the taste at all and it's the only way I'll eat them, I use it in my white beans as well. 😉

Love you Sara!! Soaking overnight, bringing them to boil for 10 minutes, then dumping in a colander, rinsing and rinsing the pot too – THREE times so that the forth time you bring it to the boil and cook as usual really DOES take the vast majority of the gas out. Almost all of the indigestible sugars that cause gas are removed this way. Don't add salt until they are done, it makes the outside of the beans tough and they don't cook right. I add ham and other flavoring the last 30 minutes – it often has salt.

I make homemade refried beans from pintos and homemade flour tortillas, but I just use water and salt in the beans. I often cook my beans in a pressure cooker, but I don't have an Instapot.

Love your recipes Sara! I like to use my plain beans for a Rice and Bean Casserole. Grease an oblong baking pan, layer a layer of any kind of cooked rice with chili seasoning and salt/pepper, cooked pintos with layer of chili seasoning and salt/pepper, layer of chopped green onions, layer of drained stewed tomatoes, layer of chili seasoning and salt/pepper, and top with shredded cheese. Bake at 350 degrees.
