The Ball canning book calls for 6 lbs of pears and FOUR cups of sugar.
The pears this am at my local farmers market are very sweet.
I don’t think I need to add that much sugar.
I went with three, it’s reducing right now….I’m hoping once it reduces the true pear taste will remain and not taste like pear jello! 😐

How do you NOT weigh 400 lbs Kaleb? This food you prepare is outstanding and so delish. I'm quite intrigued by this pear butter. However I only own a 4 qt crock pot. Is it OK to make a smaller batch since it's just me and my chubby hubby? But how many pears to do smaller batch? I can freeze it flat in baggies. I love freezing things flat. Takes no room at all. And K we love your recipes, your work ethic, and your love of all things good for us. And yes I'm making the most wonderful pork chops i saw before this recipe since my hubs adores cabbage in any color or shape. Haha. Love you too you adorable sweet guy

Love your recipes! I just read how you renovated you kitchen in the fall This Old House Magazine. I've always loved the part that we can see on camera, but seeing the pictures of your whole kitchen (before and after) , I have to say I love everything that you did! Now I want my kitchen to look like that. I love the separate baking area! Thank you for everything you teach us
