    So I lost 90 pounds on very low carb fairly easily before I hit the mother of all stalls which has now lasted nearly 18 months. With about 20 more pounds to lose I started PSMF for 2 days a week. I’ve now tried this for nearly 3 months. But nearly every day following the PSMF day I experienced binge eating attacks (scoffing down high fat keto food and veggies like I’ve never eaten before) which I haven’t had on normal very low carb/keto. I kept on saying to myself I have to trust the process and EVERYONE loses weight with PSMF. Well to make a long story short I have now gained nearly 10 pounds over the last 3 months! Am I the only one on this planet for whom PSMF does not work like at all???

    Hey there, I just saw that Maria Emmerich posted today The Easiest Protein Sparing Bread Recipe – where Kai makes the bread using ONLY the egg white powder and some other ingredients and NO egg whites! It is also on her website main page, game changer for those of us with egg white whipping anxiety!

    Please look up the original psmf from late 1969 I think, it was a long term up to 6 to 16 weeks for rapid loss. The only way to test your hypothesis that eating that low of calories isn’t harmful to your hormones is to measure yourself then do intuitive eating for a month and see if you get bigger , lose, or stay the same.

    3 days a week PSMF broke my stall and melted the fat fast in all the right places. It felt like a miracle. At 60 years young and now in maintenance, building and maintaining lean muscle is vital so I’m maintaining as I build muscle with 2 days PSMF and higher fat high protein on the other days. I’m loving it and can sustain it as my lifestyle. I do not fast now at all unless it’s organically. The PS days are my fasting days. And I’m having 4 meals a day. This is working for my body and lifestyle and I’m so grateful for it.

    The hormone's released on a very low calorie diet is different than from fasting. That is the root of that comment. Your point is well stated, that PSMF is not for every day, and fasting is also not forever either. The issue is that low calorie or very low calorie is different in no calories due to the hormone response in both of these cases are taken into account. Low Calorie and very low calories have show to damage your metabolism. All your points are on track though.

    @Indigo Nili if I may add 2 cents..for anyone who has burning questions about exactly how PSMF works to burn fat and "spare" protein (your lean muscle mass)…from Maria Emmerich's channel, under videos, search for, what is protein sparing. This will bring up 2 of the most valuable video resources and there are a ton more on her channel as well. Also, if you have the time, any of the videos labeled Q&A's are wonderful. It's advisable for us all to keep learning and Maria has been utilising this method for approximately 20 years. Her husband has added his scientific approach also, including their macro calculator so that even if you don't count macros, you'll know what they should be. This calculator provides both keto day and PSMF day macros at once. I had no idea how far off I was in my thinking and as soon as I modifed my macros, I went down to my goal weight in no time. Hope you don't mind this recommendation…only wanting to help.

    Good for you on finding a way for your body to heal itself. PSMF is a good way to "fast" and have your body lose that fat without having to go through that period of time where you don't eat for long periods of time.

    I’m also doing alternating PSMF and keto days. I find it harder to do the week before my cycle. I’m also dairy free. I’m feeling so good that my Shmec is in check! Please share the dairy free pumpkin spice recipe once you get it together! Thanks for sharing your update!

    While I was watching this video, Lillie Kane's new interview with Maria Emmerich about PSMF popped up and they were talking about this exact same thing! 😆 Maria reiterated exactly what you said: PSMF is not meant to be done long term and she doesn't recommend more than 3 PSMF days a week. BOOM! I'm definitely going to try doing a few lean days a week after the holidays.

    Fasting = 0 fat, 0 protein, 0 carb
    PSM fast = low fat, 120 gram protein, low carb
    BBBE = beef bacon butter eggs is unlimited protein and some fat
    Two of them saves (spares) my muscle, I'm older I need that.

    I don't understand the "sparing" part of PSMF. It seems to me that it is the fat that is being spared and the protein is being targeted. Great explanation on the whys and wherefores. I've been hesitant on trying this, but maybe you've given me the impetus to try it. As you indicated, Charity is nine. What are the ages of the others?

    I’m so here for “Mic Drop Nili” 💃🏼 I love your commentary on low calorie bad/IF good when they’re virtually the same just organized differently. It’s amazing how quickly people get hung up on semantics… (kinda pointing fingers at myself on that point, but in regards to other topics 😆). You make an excellent case and I agree with you 👌🏻

    What you are describing in regards to intermittent fasting and lean/low fat days is a difference between men and women, particularly in middle age and after children.
    I have discovered that elements of IF are critical in my own weight loss as middle age woman, post kids. But it is emphatically keeping an eating window and no snacking. If I push too hard, like you did on the 72 hour fast, I will end up with a stress reaction like you experienced. I have done it and gained water weight for the exercise. In the end that translated to tired, hungry, and no weight losses. Women must avoid a stress reaction while somehow keeping hormones in check and cutting overall calories. Thus alternating or cycling lean/fat days while avoiding grazing.
    Men, on the other hand, can futz much around more. Their stress reactions to fasting generally seems to produce body fat loss, assuming good health otherwise. Steve at Serious Keto seems like a great guy. But as a woman, if I followed what he did almost causally to lose specifically the body fat, I would end up with nothing to show for it. Men's experiences with body fat loss simply do not translate to women working on the same goals, although they have similarities.
