Your floating fruit will sink in time. I was raised in the boondocks of Appalachia and we kinda saved the canned fruit for the first 3 months of the new year as everyone thought that is when we needed the vitamins the most. (20 miles from a store)

Did you know that you can blanch the pears like peaches to easily remove the peals? Put the pears in simmering hot water, for about 30 or so seconds. Remove pears and put them in a large bowl of cold tap water. No ice is needed. Then rub the pear and the peals will come off. Much safer, also.

Pears are so good. I chopped a pear up and put it on my oatmeal and sprinkled it with roasted salted pepitas for breakfast yesterday. So delicious. No need to add sugar to oatmeal. Just add fruit. I want to can pears.

very smart – if you read the fine print on the OFFICAL canning sites you do not have to peel the pears (this goes for any fruit) and you do not have to add sugar (this goes for any fruit) – we are all so use to all that sugar and the "clean" look of the fruit without the peel that many do it anyway – I never peel and never add sugar but add sweetness when I eat them (but turns out I like them better without any sweetness added)
