Could I mix dark brown sugar, cream and water, boiled down to the consistency of syrup, instead of maple syrup? Real maple syrup is way too expensive for my pocketbook!

This is exactly how my friend makes her peach cobbler and it's delicious! She just puts the peaches and some syrup on top instead of the maple cream, but now I have to try this way too!

omg, I wonder if you can make tres leches cake in a similar way. No need to poke holes, let it soak, and then chill for hours. You just pour the milk mix into the pan before baking and voila! you got nice warm juicy three milk cake.
    I shall try this soon.

I think this is a French Canadian version of hasty pudding. Mais oui monsieur le Chef Jean. C’est magnifique . Next poutine made with beluga caviar from the kitchens of Chef John. We poor people are liable to have a few cans of caviar hanging around we usually feed to the dog.

I wish I were that poor. I would suggest brown sugar with maybe half a cup of maple syrup with whole milk. You could try this with a vanilla pudding you make flavored with brown sugar and maple syrup. I suspect results would be much the same but a lot cheaper.
