My mother loved the holidays. When Thanksgiving and Christmas was near, I could actually feel love and the festivities in the air. My mother cooked as if 30+ people was living in our home; then it was just 5 of us. She baked at least 4-5 sweet potato pies, apple pie peach cobbler, pecan pie and assorted cakes, including my favorite, a Rex jelly icing cake. I haven't even mentioned the entrees, side dishes and freshly baked homemade rolls in batches. Relatives and friends would stop by to eat, chit-chat, laugh and then go to their next invite. The house was always filled with the scents of fresh citrus fruit, freshly brewed coffee and buttery, rich baked cakes. Those were some wonderful days.

Well, Chef, I finally did it. I used my KitchenAid mixer for the first time and made this pie (actually pies). I must say that the mash pouring out of the mixing bowl did not look as smooth as yours. I was told by the person who turned me on to your channel that: (1) I should have baked the potatoes longer, and (2) I should have used a whisk instead of a paddle. And while it didn't look particularly good out of the bowl, it ended up alright. Tasted fine, and I am happy with my first effort at baking. The second pie is going to my family when I see them this Friday. The first I'lll share with some of the homeless I see around on the streets. Thanks Chef!

You did add some ingredients that go in your pie, but your pie is just to dark brown looking for me I don't know if your nutmeg or cinnamon along with t h at butter scotch did it . I believe that the flavors you wanted is there but I say don't make it so dark. I believe you are a good cook

I was raised in the north of parents who were raised in the south and we ALWAYS had Sweet Potato (especially when my dad brought some that he grew after he moved back south) and NEVER pumpkin. I LOVE Sweet Potato pie but not Pumpkin. If I was raised eating it I would probably like it. 👍🏾 for Sweet Potato Pie😋

I can’t wait!! I’m praying my mo gifts me her stand mixer this year, she does not bake at all. I’m going to H‑E‑B this week to find my butterscotch. Chef, how early can I make this before thanksgiving? And do I store it in the fridge or can it be frozen?

I'll have to agree with you there. Growing up in upstate New York, I never saw sweet potato pie, much less grits, fried okra, collard greens, or okra and tomatoes. It wasn't until we moved to Florida that I ever encountered any of these dishes. Why the heck were we Yankees deprived of such delicacies? Of course, these all are some of my favorite dishes. Thanks for this recipe, Chef!! Have a great Thanksgiving!!

Hi Chef Jeff! 👋🏼 from NC. I will be making my ☝🏽 sweet potato pie this Thanksgiving. I always had an idea on how to make it, I think the butterscotch to it is what I was looking for. For any viewers looking for the Smuckers butterscotch, I went on the hunt for the butterscotch. Amazon says they could deliver in 1 ~ 2 months. I won’t need it then. 😂 I went to Publix website. They have it, their stock is limited. I ordered 4 so I will have them. Just to let the viewers know and if anybody ask you. Enjoy your week and holiday. Thanks For Sharing your recipes. ❤

🤣 Chef I'm getting caught up but you are right about being black and having that sweet potato pie on the table. I make 10 each for Thanksgiving and Christmas. But with a crust on the top also. Don't judge me now lol.

What you are saying about the pies is definitely true. Black people mainly eat sweet potato pie. I noticed that when I was younger. Like you said no offense to anyone but that is true. And it's crazy I have 5 kids and only 1 likes sweet potato pies. My kids aren't human…lol!!
