Hello Chef Jeff – Your cabbage look scrumptious. I never had braised cabbage & you make it look so easy. I'm usually the breakfast cook. My mom or mother – in – law would cook them in a pan with some grease & also with some pork. I have some country in me. City country city, but the cabbage would always taste good. Hope you had a good Christmas with your family. God bless you & your mom she taught you right.

My my my…. I have my cabbage cooked already and in the freezer. Chef where do you find those nice hamhocks? The butcher shops where I live don’t have those. Makes me want my own meat market!

Ok. That was torture. Just kidding. I am here in Seattle area and can’t get to a store or have anything delivered. I like cabbage just about every way it can be served but this old soul food recipe is my favorite! I was brought up in Louisiana and that hot sauce is definitely a factor for the cabbage and those black eyed peas you made earlier. While it may have become a national thing I believe it is a southern tradition to serve these frugal but delicious meals as a token of good fortune for the coming year. If you are willing to eat frugally when needed and have joy in it, those are factors that guarantee a year economic success. On the other hand a fool and his money are soon parted. So it’s more than just luck to eat these meals on New Year’s Day. It’s a perspective. Thank you for the Christmas vlogs!
