Totally agree with @kndacus. All of these have never gone away. They have all been popular in the south. I'm not a big fan of a few of them. I'm shocked Velveta and Nutella are anywhere on this list. I would like to know how they come up with these list. Lol

Never tasted Nutella. Never owned a smartphone. I'm such a rebel.

Does your canned fish have to come in a TIN for hipsters to think it's cool?

I was unaware that cottage cheese had gone "out of style", that's funny. This whole video with it's take on foods coming and going out of style if funny. I lied. I confess, I didn't make it beyond the cottage cheese.

Back in the 60's, I had access to a military library. During WWI, there was a thing called "Sterilized Processed Assorted Meats". There was a severe shortage of protein for soldiers and people at home, so whatever was available got cooked at very high temperature in an anoxic environment, then canned. (Guess what the process is still used for!) Once SPAM went commercial, that history was cleaned up. The books may still exist somewhere, but it's nowhere online.

Instant noodles and spaghetti ARE NOT THE SAME THING!! Their boiling point is different. It takes 12-15 mins for spaghetti to boil while ramen takes no more than 2. If you tried to make spaghetti with ramen noodles, you'll literally end up with the most soggy, mushed together noodles ever.

I learned how delicious tinned sardines were when I was traveling through Europe in my early twenties. So don’t imply that they’re enjoyed by people of a “certain age”. Take a fresh baguette, smear it with gorgeous European butter and plop some sardines on it. Bottle of cheap white wine and you have the best picnic ever.

When I was a kid, I liked cottage cheese, but I grew up and tried it again after several years and didn't like it. Had it the same way I had it as a kid – with black pepper.
Don't care for Spam, but Armour* Treet's pretty good IMO. (You can use Spam and veggies to make Hawaiian ramen 😜)
Root beer's good but birch beer's more up my alley.

Except for cabbage I usually have all that in my pantry and fridge. Cottage cheese is the secret ingredient to moist juicy grilled burgers 2 Tbl to a lb add moisture and a little more bulk without losing protein. I use a lactose free cottage cheese for my daughter when cooking for her.

I guess it depends on where you live, but most of these items have never gone out of "style" (i.e., they've always been in common use) in the Southern US.
