Those are the same veggies and garlic you use to make Chicken broth from the chicken bones and whatnot parts of the chicken you don't use. Love making this too.
As someone who was with an Italian who made this often, I disagree with how it's been made. That's not even the correct pasta, pastina is the star shaped pasta.
