I think chipotle just changed the recipe for beans… Mine are always sour and I can't eat much of my bowls. I used to love Chipotle but between the less protein, sour beans, bitter rice and the really high price for 1 entree, I'm ok finding somewhere else to eat. But now I can make it at home!

So I am an experienced home cook and I made this version. Very good? Yes. Better than Chipotle version? Much better. Better enough to spend the 2.5 hrs I did plus dishes, shopping for different items (Tomatillos at Whole Foods, I already had Guajillos) and clean up? Not even close. 9/10 nights go to Chipotle….

I use to work at chipotle. The beans, carnitas, barbacoa, and the tofu one are all precooked and sent to them in bags that they heat up in a huge souvee like thing. Whenever one of them gets to dry most of the time they just say to add water when the customers aren’t looking so it last longer and they don’t have to throw it away

In Chipotle they adding lime juice to basically everything including, nachos and beans which can give a weird sour taste – I've worked there so confirmed 😅 Either they added a bit too much lime juice or for real the beans were old lol.

REMINDER: Ask your guests to try some cilantro before using it as a main part of your dish. Up to something like 10% of Americans at least say that it tastes something like soap to them. I would know, I am one of them. Yes, to be clear, we mean soap, actual soap.
