Well, Monsieur, I am impressed with your non-legalism. There is a beautiful spirit to food and IMHO, when we start saying things like, "It is not really this or that if you do not use certain ingredients.", we completely miss the enjoyability of the recipe. Ground meat is ground meat. Use the flavours you like. You may still call it "Shepherds Pie". Besides, I seriously doubt that the shepherds actually made this. They did not spend a lot of time in a kitchen.

Question: Chef I notice you use metal utensils on those Woll non-stick pans frequently. Do you find it wears the finish and ruins the pans prematurely? Or is the finish on the pans superior and one does not have to worry about type of utensils used. I immensely enjoy your vids. Thank You.

I love that you have all the skills to make a good dish, including the fancy stuff- but you can also level with us and make a tasty casserole. With how much TLC you put into your food, I can just about taste it through the monitor.

If you make it with beef its called a Cottage Pie. Also if you have the potato on the bottom its no longer a Pie! and the toping should be roasted? Toasted to Finnish it off so you can't do that if the potato is on the bottom. If you want to know how to cook english food like this then ask its original country otherwise call it something else or the recipe ends up lost from what it should be.

English Pie Police here: I've made shepherd's pie using the same recipe as my grandmother and mother for about forty years, and it's almost identical to this. The only thing I'd do differently is to use a fork to texture the top of the mashed potatoes. Gently wipe it from the edges to the center, to make a sort of star pattern with a peak in the middle, then run the fork round the edge to make a border. The top of the little ridges will crisp and brown a little more, adding a ton of flavour as well as making the mash a little stronger to hold a slice together. 9.5/10 chef!

French name, uses a first name as his chef name (which you are supposed to be last name). Accent and word choice is Spanish, Italian, and German mixed. WTF is this fake BS

You know I used to do drywall..😆
And love the way he talks to unanimate objects. Hey you, stay over there…..🤣👌
Bottom line looks like an easy recipe to do and great tip with the extra egg yolks in the mashed potatoes. 😍

Today I’m heading into the kitchen to try to heal the hole in my heart.
On Friday, we had to have our favorite cat put to sleep.
I’m beyond sad and stopped eating. I’m going to try this dish to get me right, if possible.
My husband is English, and shepherds pie is his favorite.
I am going to even go as far as making clarified butter.
Just working away quietly in the kitchen might be a way to start feeling whole again.

My mom used to make delicious cottage pie (with beef) and other times she’d make a shepherds pie with
Goat meat (Europeans seem to prefer goat). (she did not like lamb). Both were so very good….but the one with goat meat was truly Devine! Wish she was still here. She’d use the tins of a fork on the mash potatoes just how you used the spatula. She also always, always added egg yolk to her mash, and I do as well. She would also put small dabs of butter on top of the mash to help brown. I make cottage pie often but am looking forward to making this shepherds pie very soon.
