Rutabaga was introduced to the UK from northern Europe (a couple of hindred years ago) as a storable, cold-climate fodder to get your cattle through winter, and were known as Swedish Turnips, hence 'swede'

Potato is a good and delicious carb. Look up the potato diet. Many people have lost a lot of weight eating potatoes. Moderation is key!! Still a interesting video tho.

What about butternut squash as a potato substitute? Do you have any recipes you can make? Or give your opinion compared to the above video( mashed potatoes, fries, hash browns, etc?

Ive always enjoyed my moms recipe of mashed rutabegas with sugar cinnamon and butter. Prepare like mashed potatoes. I guess now it would b monk fruit or stevia.

Jicama doesn't EVER get cooked through no matter what cooking method and no matter how small the pieces are, even greater jicama in a pressure cooker never loses the crunch. If anyone knows of a way to actually get it to cook please post here so I can find success after many trials and 100% failure at getting jicama soft

Switching from olive oil to beef tallow or duck fat will greatly improve the crispiness and flavor! It is a French cooking secret to the most amazing fried potatoes to use duck fat. Thanks for this great challenge, Really enjoyed watching it!

jicama and rutabaga at 12 and 13 carbs per cup are not what I call "low" carb. Wife and I have had good luck with radish and turnips for "American fries". for what it is worth I am diabetic and my limit is 15 total carbs per day

I think the best French fry substitute is non ripened avocados sautรฉed in coconut oil! More like a home fry taste- but closest to potatoes Iโ€™ve tried.. plus probably lower in carbs than the other stuff and good fats!
